In January Boris Johnson annouced a idea for the development and encouragment of electric cars in London.
Since then he has been involved in talks with Gordon Brown himself, Mandelson and Hoon on details of this project. The project has grown to one that could make the UK a world leader in low emission hybrids and electric cars.
It was agreed between Brown and Johnson, rightly, that there would be a joint announcement of the detail.
The project has now been announced in the Independent and Boris Johnson has been cut out of the picture entirely by Brown and Darling. It is identical to Boris' scheme.
That to me says a lot about Brown.
Gordon Brown cannot be simply cannot be trusted, he does not know the meaning of honour, truth and decency.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said "he will give U.K. automakers incentives to build more fuel- efficient vehicles including electric cars as the industry suffers from a slump in sales".
Boris Johnson said "he is considering the introduction of an electric car hire scheme in London as part of his attempts to make it the "electric capital of Europe".
Notice the difference.
If these two people, or any other people from the opposite sides of the fence, can come up with an idea and work on it together, with something that will be good for the people of this country, then why can't you support it, rather than try to score points off it?

Brown is a liar and cheat - simple. He went into discussion with Boris on the ideas put forward by Boris, agreed a joint launch and reneged on that agreement.

The Greater London authority plans to reduce the total number of 40 staff working on environmental issues in the capital to 20. Boris Johnson has cancelled the Green Homes Service, a scheme that could provide valuable jobs for Londoners in these precarious times. A project moreover, which, with its commitment to insulation and renewable energy would help to drive down our household fuel bills.
He has also cut the funding to the London Cycle Network Plus by £10 million. The completion of the scheme would not only save people money by encouraging them to cycle, it is also essential to the safety of cyclists throughout the capital. The establishment of cycling routes through roundabouts and dangerous junctions is a project that will save lives.
Boris Johnson has cut funding for work on equalities. In one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world that is still blighted by unacceptable gaps between rich and poor. In a time of recession it is the poorest and least socially integrated that are likely to be hit the hardest.
The Mayor has also reduced funding for rape crisis centres, turning his back on one of his election pledges despite a 16% increase in the number of reported rapes last year.
Boris Johnson has not just cut valuable projects to make savings, however. He has increased the economic burden on the average Londoner. Despite his promise of a zero increase to the council tax precept he has raised public transport fares above the rate of inflation, costing a typical working household an extra £180 a year plus the cost of his expensive plans to phase out bendy buses and his decision to drop plans for an emissions based £25 congestion charge for gas guzzling vehicles. Boris Johnson's policies will make London more expensive and more polluted.
Probably Bojo will have me "done over" but not too badly hurt by his old Etonian friends but to call GB a lair I think is a bit harsh and out of order. In comparison to Bojo he is a Saint.

Brian - we still have up to 15 months of this failing Government and incompetent Prime Minister. His actions over the last 12 years that have led this country to its present appaling state makes him a political issue. The Brown bashing has hardly got started yet, there is a mass of material to use against this idiot.

BarryW so far youve called the Prime Minister of our glorious nation in this one thread alone a liar a cheat and an idiot. That smacks of very serious desperation on the part of the Conservatives who have once again disappeared completely off the radar in recent weeks. Brown is clearly none of the aforementioned, neither an idiot nor a liar nor a cheat, and I think even most of his political rivals would agree with that one. He is still a well respected figure striding the world stage in recent weeks trying to do his best to counteract this very nasty global recession. Not saying he is perfection itself by any means and Im not saying he will win the next election as the tide is turning away from him, but he is still an earnest politician and decent all round egg.
You very often say we are in the worst position of all to fight the recession but have you seen the latest extra and extreme budget in Ireland only the other day. They have been hammered even worse than the UK. So we are not the worst...I doubt we are the worst by a long way.

Ireland, PaulB is struggling under the weight of Euro membership. Our already dreadful circumstance would also be even worse if we were Euro members. It is not me who says our position is the worse, its the OECD, the EU and IMF.
As for Gordon Brown, I consider him to be all that I have said he is. His actions over the Boris matter demonstrates that, let alone the other many actions, deciets and lies that he is guiltyy of. Many of these have been discussed before on this forum. I suppose you could excuse him by claiming he is deluded.

I wonder if BarryW has got it wrong about Brown bashing. It is my belief that the Tories nationally in the run up to the general election will adopt a more cuddly, hug-a-hoody, party of progressive politics stance. This will be in contrast to the sub-Thatcherite one increasingly latched onto by Hague in 2001 and Howard in 2005 which many justified the 'nasty' tag that came with it.
I think that the word will come down from on high that the traditional right wing stuff should be avoided and anyone in the Tory ranks breaking line will be firmly slapped down.

Whatever approach the Conservatives take I will speak as I find. I dislike weasel words and call a spade a spade and always will.

Calling a spade a spade might be going a bit too far even for you, Barry. It is only his surname that is Brown, not his complexion.
So far you have contented yourself with painting him as a liar, a cheat, an idiot, and delusional. You seem to have missed a few further useful characteristics. Jeremy Clarkson helpfully pointed out that he is also one-eyed and Scottish. Not forgetting that he is the spitting image of Frankie Howerd, titter ye not.
Charlie Elphicke must be wondering what he has done to deserve supporters like you. His prospects of a second home and expense account porn movies must be looking more and more distant by the day.

BarryW,
Can I ask why you have chosen to ignore Marek's, #5,super reply to your post?
The numerous cuts B.Boris has made, shows his disregard for most Londoners.

Gary - nothing really to say. In the current economic circumstances cuts in Government and Local Government spending are essential and unavoidable. A lot of very difficult choices need to be made whoever is in charge.
