21:0413139I was trying to draw or even bait Charlie E on this topic the other night but he wasnt having any of it. I looked deep into his eyes for signs of devastation but there was none there.
I would have expected a tad more concern at the shift in public perception of the current government. Ah the tidal too and fro of political life...

23:1313147Why would you expect concern from Charlie PaulB.?
He knows things have moved on from the polls of which that was based.
The three latest polls will not have been included in that and these have been consistent in showing that the Brown bounce was what we in finance call a 'dead cat bounce.
I have been saying all along that as the recession bites harder and harder and as the Government is seen to have failed with its stimulus the polls will swing back. They are and more is to come.

23:5913150Am I right in thinking that Charlie has stood in two general elections without success? If that's correct then maybe he would have a concern that he may become a three time loser. Not many try for a fourth time do they?

00:1913152i thought that chas was a political virgin?
this has never come up before, must be his youthful cherubic looks.
failing that, maybe he has just travelled around in a baby buggy?
we should be kept informed on this.

22:4613263I see a new poll being published tomorrow has increased the Conservative lead, yet again. Third two figure lead, the fourth good poll for the Conservatives since Christmas.
In brackets are the changes from the equivilent poll in December:
Conservatives - 44% (+5)
Labour - 30% (-5)
Lib Dems - 17% (+2)
Charlie will be seen by calculus to be back in front next month.
I expect this poll lead to get better with the Ken Clarke appointment and the increasingly obvious desperation of Brown.

00:2313274I'll have a go if you like, why cant they answer the question? Didnt Charlie stand before? Was it in one or was it in two general elections without success?
I came up with this myself, not help no prompting, no ring round, no suggestions, no nudge and no wink and certainly no circular email from central office. You know the ones, they are so tiresome.

02:0713372A Charles Elphicke, Conservative, came second to Kerry Pollard, Labour in the 2001 General Election at St. Albans.
Charles Elphicke polled 15,423 votes; Kerry Pollard polled 19,889 votes.
Although he lost the election he increased the Tory vote by 2%
In the 2005 General election Kerry Pollard, Labour, lost the seat to Ann Main, Conservative.

A fall of 11% in Labour vote.

16:5313507I have been asked to point out by Gwyn's team that the posting made by Howard, that's posting number 11 on this thread, is a fabrication and not true. Gwyn does not swear in public and is well used to the carparking charges as he uses that carpark on a weekly basis, so would not react in the way mentioned.

17:3113509I cant comment on what howard said but a certain ex Labour Councillor might choose to argue over whether GP swears in public or perhaps that was just swearing at aforesaid councillor (some might say understandable!)

18:4113517of course it was a fabrication, did anyone seriously believe that our MP would utter such stuff in public?
