We had a super day on Saturday at the above event.Well done BarryW ..it was great being able to chat with you and hear your ideas for the future.Dover needs people like you. Also a big hug to Mandy and Michelle who raised over £100 from their Teddy Bear Tombola stall for DCal.It was a super day and we shall be popping over again today,Sunday, after Mass. This event is growing bigger each year and it highlights Dovers role in WW2 something we should never forget.
Well done all.Nice to see Roger and Jean back from their cruise.Nigel and Charlie and the unsung hero Terry Nunn on sound.

An absolute fantastic weekend.
A BIG and very well deserved thank you to Barry and his loyal team.

Bigger and better than last year so it makes you wonder what is yet to come. And the weather was nice too.
Thanks Barry.

Yes, well done indeed to everyone who worked so hard.
I loved the singing, such a lovely sound and the girls looked good too !!
Not quite so many civvy cars this year I thought; I love those old 1940s cars.
Barry was saying that the crowds were so much bigger this year than last, so that was good, but the tickets for the Town Hall dance didn't so well, which is a massive shame.
The ticket price shouldn't have been that much of a problem, good value really at £19.50 - especially with the venue, the band and food.
Hope they can repeat it next year, including the Band and Town Hall; I know the bands are very expensive.

was a great weekend, a big thank you to all involved.
i was there both days at different times.
the vehicles were great, the best things for me were the "swingtime sweethearts" and the "lindy hoppers".
am i correct in thinking that they were both here last year.

Great photos Paul - some good, unusual angles too.
The Swingtime Sweethearts were there last year Howard, I bought on of their CDs, not sure about "Lindy Hoppers" though.

Yes the Lindies were there too last year, they are old favourites who have beeen with us from the start. Kas and the Clover Sisters were also there last year.
Paul - great photos. I didnt see you! I did see lots of photographers including Phil Medget who managed some great shots for the paper.
Thank you all for coming along.

Thought I'd pop in here with my view on the weekend. In previous years I always took with me a pile cd's of wartime music. I happen to like that sort stuff, I should have been born earlier. I am ten years younger than my brother, my mother was always telling me I was a mistake. Perhaps that explains my paranoia! But I digress.
Thus it was in the early days that I happily had the time to wallow in bliss with the likes of Al Bowlly and Flanagan and Allen. Not this time however, such was the continuous live performances that I only managed to play three tracks.
There is no doubt that the Hellfire Corner Weekend has grown into a splendid event.
I take no credit for the organising of it, I just turn up on the day and do my bit. I won't single out any committee member, they work seamlessly as a team and it all comes together. More power to their collective elbows.
Mike McFarnell has put up a short piece on the web, it really only hints at what happened but nevertheless is worth looking at:-

There is one sour note however, the previous weekend I was at the Pageant. During the clear up at the end some kind person nicked a cable drum and my tub with things like gaffer tape and odd tools in it. In all about £150. It made me rather despondent.
I have a damn good idea who did it but can't prove it.

Terry
Thanks for the link to the video..it was super.
Sorry to learn about your box of tricks being nicked surely you could inform the law of your suspicions and then let them make the necessary enquiries. It makes your blood boil.Keep your chin up old boy.

Terry,
First of all thanks for the link to Mike's video. Looks great.
I agree with Marek about the police regarding the theft. They may not achieve anything but you do need a crime number for the insurance.
I have to say we had a bit of a problem with drunks at our weekend. They were not exactly causing trouble but were larking around and unsteady on their feet near the motorbike displays and we were concerned that they would fall over and damage the displays (they were getting so far gone they wouldnt have noticed if they themselves got hurt!). At the urging of some people I range the police, was on the phone for a while and, guess what, the police never did respond so it was a waste of time calling them!!!
Thankfully our Vic had words with them and escorted them out of the park. They did return but did not get too near the bikes and while they were drunk they did remain good humoured and I received no further complaints and as such did not ring the police again.

that is true about our thirsty friends, thankfully they were the good natured ones.
re; the swingtime sweethearts, we purchased a CD on the way out, the girls were there and signed a photo and the cd
was placed in a gift bag.
the problem for me with the lindy hoppers is that they made me feel tired watching them.
where do these people find the energy?
looking forward to next year.

It was a splendid weekend, thoroughly enjoyed both days and the dance at the hall.. managed to surprise Paul twice in my various guises as Flt Lt on sat and later (at the dance) as T.Thomas resplendant in boater and sports jacket
Was sorry to hear from Terry that his gear was pilfered, I lost a pair of glasses on the saturday during a 'scramble' lwhich never reappeared, uckily I had a back-up pair for the dance and Sunday.
Was well impressed with both bands (Jeff Short at the dance and the Betteshanger Colliery) it was a great shame that we had a short shower on Sunday as the Betteshangers played, but true troupers they plaed on till the sun returned (even if the peeps did not).
In fact all was just perfect - a true time-slip if there evere was...
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

Apparantly one of the dealers had a firearm stolen too. Deactivated, of course.
Great weekend, thanks very much to all those who organised the weekend.

Superb weekend. Thankyou very much Barry, Terry and all the others who make this possible. Particularly impressed with the Swingtime Sweethearts and the Lindy Hoppers, great fun.

Sorry to hear you has some stuff stolen Terry, what a bummer !
I think the other suggestions about the Police are sensible and may result in your box of tricks being returned.
The Lindy Hoppers - were they the dancers ? if so, I didn't see them this year, but last year I was just amazed at how good they were - should have been on the stage at the Town Hall dancing.
A time-slip indeed Buddy.

Nice pics Ed, well done. Apart from one of course, if I'd spotted you it would have been two fingers up! Was Phil diverting my attention?
Just to clarify, my thefts were from the Pageant not HC. I do have a crime number but details were only taken of myself (why do they always want to know your DOB?) the time and place.
Someone will call back to take details of the items........
..........eventually.
I don't expect anything to be recovered, I just wanted to add to the crime figures.
I'm still smarting from when I was mugged a few years ago. It was late at night and the yobs legged it. I had no real description so only reported it in person (complete with grazed face) at the nick the following morning. Talking to Ian, the town centre cop the next week it transpired that although details were taken they were never recorded. That's why the crime rate is falling!
