Just caught the news this evening of HMQ in New York speaking to the UN General Assembly. She is then off to visit Ground Zero to pay her respects, a visit to NY lasting 5 hours in all....
Apart from the sheer wonder about how a lady of her age is able still to keep up this pace it got me thinking about how lucky we are to have her.
Being a totally non-political head of State makes her unique, OK there are some other non-political heads of State, but none of them are the Queen of 16 members of the UN and head of the Commonwealth, representing 2bn people worldwide.
There simply can be no other person in the world that can command the international respect and status that she has.
How many people alive now knew Churchill and Eisenhower personally, who have sat and discussed great matters of State with them? None, I suspect, certainly not at the UN assembly...
How long will it be before another person addresses the UN assembly a second time, 53 years after the first occasion?
For 20 minutes our Queen commanded the world stage, listened to with respect, her speech which lasted only 5 minutes will be broacast in every country of the world.
What a great asset she is to this country, Her Maj, strutting her stuff.....

with you there barry, she has a certain understated stylethat belies her position.
sadly i do not see any of her offspring or their offspring having the class to take over the position.
when she goes the monarchy does too.
Barry,
So today you are against a perfectly reasonable information gathering exercise (census) and in favour of primogeniture (interbred idiots).
I despair.

I dont know - Charlie boy is not so bad - a bit pompous maybe and can be a bit of a new age a**e but I am sure he will do his job. Young Billy is showing promise, he certainly showed a bit of the Di magic in Africa recently. Have faith Howard - we are lucky to have this system, it sets us apart in the world, much to our benefit.

Barry, I believe that the blessed Lady Diana failed he 'O' levels twice ending up with two.
I have neither taught nor slept with anyone that thick to the best of my knowledge.
(Off topic - I always tell my University Students 'never sleep with anyone crazier than yourself' it worked for me!)

i am one up on you bob, most of the women i have "slept with" had trouble spelling their own name.
try not to be too anguished.
No qualifications and don't consider myself thick thanks Bob. Got to the top without tatty bits of paper through sheer determination and hard work. It's that educationally snobbish attitude which keeps thousands out of work as "up their own self importance" HR types now aim to focus on not passing for review any c.v.'s containing a degree lower than a 2:1. At a stroke they remove thousands from getting anywhere near an interview for work.
There are vry many "can do" people out there who don't get a fair deal when it comes to employment. I am passionately against any form of educational snobbery in the workplace and always aim to hire on the basis of what someone can do for my company and their personality.
Absolutely Sid and respect where due.
However if I thought that you'd got where you were by sleeping with the heir to the throne?

All credit to you Sid, you got to your position in life through hard work and determination, a fine example.
Not sure how the Royal Family fit this model?

all that waving, shaking hands and continually asking the same question "what do you do" must take it out of the royals.
