Doh Ray Me Fa So La Ti D'oh......................
Luddites unite, tonites the nite. Bah Humbug - ID cards are gone and not mourned, a waste of time and effort, too much money has already been wasted, mainly on trying to justify them in the first place.
I have almost forgotten what the original thread was about!! D'oh

I'm all for a laugh but there is a serious petition linked to in this thread. Shame to see job losses in Dover reduced to banalities.
(Sorry, bad mood today).

Doe?
Phil, there is much worse news to come as the price for 13 yers of fiscal mayhem. The Immigration Officer news is only the start, so, not too much point grumbling I'm afraid. We got what we voted for in 1997, and we are now getting what we voted for in 2010.

......which isn't much comfort to Phil, I'm afraid.

i totally disagree with you.
the border agency chaps and chapesses save this country a small fortune.
as an addendum, the dover unit is the most successful in the country, i believe.

The Immigration Service (as was) now UKBA could become a revue collecting agency therefore safe guarding and ring fencing some money to ensure that staff levels are maintained or improved and that there is continuing in-service training in areas like forgery detection, lookalikes and better liaison with outside foreign bodies involved in similar tasks by starting to charge all foreign nationals an embarkation or immigration tax similar to those operated by Australia,India,Bangladesh where you can't board the plane until your passport has been stamped as seen by an I O and the relative fee paid. (A$20 in 1986!!) Not only does it ensure that all passengers wishing to leave the UK are checked out by an I.O but it also provides some dosh for the old coffers.
