20:536265If you care to look up Cabinet Agenda 4th February 2008 followed by Scrutiny then Cabinet March 2008 one can trace how decision was made .I think some of you are well off the beam here .Councillors are elected to make decisions .Cabinet make decisions which can be called in by scrutiny If we consulted on everything nothing would ever be done .Agendas are published as are our minutes Do you constantly write to MPs I think not .
A briefibg is what tenants will get as they all have homes this new system will not affectthem unless they look to transfer .
A storm in a tea cup i think .The sytem we live with is a councillor is elected every four years you have to trust us to work for you .If you dont like it stand for election your selves ..Im off to Maidstone tomorrow must learn to manage my time .

21:236268Absloutely concillors ae elected to make decisions and most of them do not need consultation, otherwise what's the point? However, re-housing and vulnerable people are words that indicate a need for full consultation - and yes, sadly i do know what that usually means, but that doesn't mean we can decline to follow that process. It is by following the processes that we safeguard the vulnerable and protect democracy.A Storm in a Teacup? How patronising is that? We question decisions and create a storm in a teacup? Reflect on that!! We elect people to make decisons, we also expect those people tofollow due process and respect our right to information and to question decisions and obtain full and open responses. And meet with someone who appears t have a genuine grievance.

22:536273We have followed due process .It went to scrutuniy and their recommendations were considered. The scrutiny process holds the cabinet to account .Would we consult with everyone in our district over something that has to be carried out by 2010?I have repeatedly told you that the vulnerable will be looked after .I cannot understand why you do not accept my response.Yes it is a storm in a tea cup when you consider whats going on all around us .
I donot take my role lightly .

07:486285Far be it from me to doubt what I am told by a politician, but I think it is reasonable to expect evidence as well as taking someones word that safeguards are in place. Actually, as with many issues, a straight answer offered respectfully would probably have made this thread go away........

18:366300I think the process being introduced is a vast improvement from a tenants perspective as there is some real element of choice.
Of course there are issues over the type and quantity of housing available, but that is down to close to 30 years of central government denying local communities the right to decide the appropriate split between council owned social housing, independent provision of social housing and private landlord rented properties.
What is wrong with this is the lack of real consultation on the implementation of a government policy.
Councillors are elected to make decisions - yes, however they are also elected to represent the best interests of their constituents and failing to properly consult on a matter so fundamental to so many in the district is frankly unacceptable.

17:526483I think I'll wait and see how it pans out before I give my opinion because if as Sue says it has to be implimented then we tenants are going to have to live with it. However, whilst this process might be good or bad it is still not going to address the deplorable social housing shortage that we have and if you'll excuse me it does sound a little like the rich government telling us poor non house owners to "Sit!, Beg!". A little harsh maybe but by asking tenants to bid for a rapidly decreasing stock it does seem a bit like that, doesn't it?

18:5410139After having killed this thread dead, don't think that I didn't remember this wonderful proposal regarding the way tenants can change their properties. I looked up the website at the beginning of November and noted that there wasn't anything to look at, oops, the scheme starts for Dover on 17th I note but the website looks good and there were lots of properties in Canterbury and Seveoaks who started before Dover. This put me in a good mood and I was happy to wait for the Dover launch.....
So here I am today after going on the website again to see what fine houses Dover District Council has to offer. I came home and told my husband to get comfortable because we aren't going anywhere. Below I give you the entire list of properties available to council tenants in the Dover District:
2 bedroom sheltered maisonette - Aylesham
1 bedroom bungalow - Eythorne
1 bedroom flat - Dover
2 bedroom flat - Deal
2 bedroom house - Elvington
3 bedroom house - Deal
Would someone please tell me just what the heck I'm supposed to do with that!?! I can't remember the last time I was so angry, oh yes I can it was after I was mugged and the council refused to change our locks until we sicced the local papers on them, oh yes and there was the time when Lilith was a baby and the pilot light in the boiler went out in the wind and wouldn't relight and because it was a Friday night the council wouldn't get someone out to put it right so all weekend we had no hot water and no heating, that was fun!!!!

09:3210183Stephanie ,I dont see the point of your posting .DDC can ony advertise Houses /Flats as they become vacant .Tenants seem to stay once they have a property its almost waiting for someone to die .or going into a rest home .There is a shortage of propherties to let .DDC are currently trying to find a way to increase their stock.Someone this past week has been glad to move into a flat or a sheltered flat Each week the list gets longer .
Up to now I have not been able to walk on water or turn Two loaves and five fishes to feed thousands .
Sorry but its a long wait .many people in under occupied homes are relucant to move .

10:2410189The point of my posting Sue is that once again DDC have built up expectation, knowing full well that it would not be fulfilled. I find your references to walking on water etc patronising, I'm not asking DDC or you to be god like just honest. Instead of attempting to spin this new scheme as the answer to all our problems why not just tell us of the new scheme but inform us that unfortunately Dover District have an extremely limited stock.
Also perhaps those responsible for housing should inform the government of how poor Dover Districts stock is and petition for the embargo against procuring new stock be lifted.
Perhaps those in under occupied houses who are reluctant to leave should be told just how many families they are preventing from having decent housing.
I did not post as an attack on you so please don't jump down my throat, I posted because I need a forum to relieve my anger at this situation and that is what this forum has, I was not rude or patronising please extend me the same courteousy.
