Spotted a bit of drilling this afternoon, and look`s like the Kent miner statue above is getting ready to move to Deal. See it while you can.

I for one will be very sorry to see this go, alot of the public coming into Dover and along the front did stop and look at it, I must say and I know this will upset some of you,BUT i still say it should stay there, a lot of men from Dover t also worked down in all the Kent mines.It is going to a good home but it will not be seen by alot of the members of the Public.

I think you will find Vic that a lot more people will see it between Sandwich and Deal than will on Dover seafront. The site at Fowlmead is ready and waiting, and will be the perfect new site for the miner.
I am sure there is a campaign for a new statue for Granville Gardens (if only I could remember what!!)

Weren't they making a copy of it to keep on the seafront, with the original going to Fowlmead ?

I would sincerley hope not Roger, it would be nothing more than a `FAKE`! Another one of a new design would be more original, and acceptable I would have thought?

Its better off in Deal (or even better Aylesham) it was not right for Dover and inapproriate for the seafront.

I agree with Barry(what!) a miner belongs in a Mining Community you wouldn't have a statue to Merchant Seaman in Betteshanger,and I am proud to say that although I stick up for Dover I helped Gary Cox with a little bit of money to take it home,remember this Statue was at Richborough Powerstation before it came here,Fowl mead is the rightful place.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Dover was also a mining Community,I will not add to it,the Statue has gone and that is the end of it.

To those who say that it was inappropriate for Dover seafront, I have to say that I disagree. The building next to Granville Gardens - Edinburgh House - was formerly the head office of the Kent NCB. I thought it most appropriately sited in full view of those offices and am sad to see it go.

it was a brilliant statue, i regret the loss of it.
however as said earlier it will be well viewed in fowlmead country park.

Agree with Vic and Andy, Dover (Shakespeare beach) was the first coal mine in Kent, and the statue was sited near the NCB offices, but perhaps it may get more interest in the area near the (later) pits.

I didn't say Dover was not a mining Community,but still believe that it's home is on or near the former Pit or the slag heap.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
