Paul aka Scotchie,
Thanks for putting link on this thread. I am pleased to say it has already attracted much enthusiasm and a very positive response.

He looks so happy there looking over the former Betteshanger site (and give him a rear view mirror he can see his old home of Richborough Power Station) - much better than looking at France !!
Been nice knowing you :)

Great picture Paul, bonded gravel floor next, then seats, then information boards, then the Memorial Plinth with engraving, when everyone is %100 sure of content. Lighting and Disabled Parking will be added when we are able to fund them. Still a way to go but we are nearly there now.

And I triplicate Roger's post. I will certainly miss it on my numerous trips down to the seafront. Good luck Gary with the Community Festival etc

seems a good idea to have an anchor on the plinth, if not what about the propellor looking so lonely at the former hoverport?

The prop is too badly corrode as far as an expert can tell....

A nice industrial steam locomotive up the transport museum. Though the industrial type`s didn`t run along the sea front, the equally small mainline locomotives did. A slightly bigger plinth required, but a good investment methinks.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.

some interesting proposals here, i remember now about the corrosion, brought up before here.
i would prefer something with a maritime theme rather than a locomotive.
preferably something that reflects our history, how about a scouse tobacco smuggler?

Locomotive`s are a maritime theme Howard, the old Marine station testify`s to it. The ferry services, run by the railway`s, took off from Dover and Folkestone when the railways arrived at the channel port`s, transporting the mail traffic as well as passenger`s long before the motor car arrived, and before any of the Kent coalfield`s were discovered.

Would rather there a bandstand back in Granville Gardens, I am sure that it would have a lot of use there !

I have had many emails since the move and all have been positive one's. The one below sum's up exactly why we wanted to move this Statue.
Hi there Gary.
Just a quick email to say how pleased I was to have finally seen the Kent Miners Statue having been moved to its new site at the entrance of Fowlmead Park. I had originally noticed the statue having been moved while driving home from work on the Thursday evening, but have been so busy that I haven't been in touch with you sooner. I think it looks absolutely fantastic and glad that all that long hard work that you and your colleagues have pushed for the past few years and finally paid off and with a great result. Everyone that I've recently spoken to regarding the Miners Statue have all said how good it looks and are pleased that it has at last been placed somewhere that it can be left and now have a true meaning for what it represents.
I also read the article in the Kent Messenger paper this week regarding the Miners Statue and read with a lot of interest that you are trying to also produce a list of all the miners who unfortunately passed away during their work in connection with the Kent Collieries. I think that this would be a great lasting monument to celebrate the struggles of all the miners and their families over the many years that the Kent Collieries existed. Because of this I do now feel that on each occasion I pass by the Miners Statue I do get a lump in my throat and instantly think by to all my late relatives who spent many hard working years down the mines.
Once again good work done to you all with the great result from the 'Move the Miner Campaign' and I look forward to finally meeting you in a few weeks at the Kent Miners Festival.
Regards,
Colin Varrall.
