07:4012254You were going quite well Howard until your last line and I really don't understand the reasonng behind it - unless it was just a throwaway insult.

09:0112258Think MAREK had some good ideas.
Wot iv said for some time is that NO GOVERNMENT has taken this issue seriously and wanted to take it on.
I don't dsagree with Roger on benefit cheats, but its the undertones on how he says it that worries me what his view realy is!!!!
as BERN says.

15:1112288What I wrote, is what I meant Keith.
I'm not in the habit of writing something other than what I mean - why does what I write get misinterpreted ? take it at face value - it's the only way.

the political parties(particularly) the conservatives need the shirkers.
that is why nothing has ever been tried seriously to solve the situation.
instead of the public pointing the finger at the government for social problems, they have the underclass to blame.
this then leads the tabloids i.e. sun.star, mail and express to demonise them and sell newspapers.

07:4712317Howard, what makes you think that the Conservatives need shirkers ? the boot is on the other foot I'm afraid.
Where do you get that idea ? what is it that makes you think that ? It couldn't be anywhere further from the truth.
Conservatives want people employed, want people educated; they want them earning, raising their standards, being responsible members of society, being the wealth creators, owning their own homes, paying their taxes etc. etc.
Who you describe is Labour, Labour are the party of bigger and bigger handouts - the cheats and benefit scroungers love Labour as they never have to work, never have to pay taxes etc.
You really do have it completely and utterly round the wrong way; I can't believe that an intelligent man like you can think that, or again, is that just a wind-up, throwawy comment ?

08:1212321The conservatives are in opposition, therefore the evidence of "shirkers", or anyone or anything that can be dragged up to shift attention from their lack of meaningful coherent policies to an apparent failure by the current government is bound to be a Good Thing for them.

08:5312325howard - I simply did not give it enough credit to deserve an answer. Roger clearly has more patience than I have at the moment!

just look at the unemployment figures since it became fashionable to go on benefit in the 70's.
labour are not that good, but the conservatives are far worse.
does that not say anything?

09:1912405There is no theme Keith.
I know Howard said about people losing their jobs in the 70's, but that was not a case of favouring shirkers for goodness sake.
