Hi all. I bought a 2007 Vauxhall Zafira in June. I haven't had any tyre issues up til now, but have realised that I'll need the locking wheel nut key to get the problem tyre off. I've had a quick look round, but can seem to find it. Does anyone know if there's a handy place where it would be hiding before I pull the car apart?

Possibly in the spare wheel well with the wheel brace.

We don't have a spare wheel. Got one of those canister spray things. Haven't needed it yet...

I had an Astra until recently and the wheel nut key was in a little black plastic box about 4"x3" and I kept it in the glove compartment. I don't suppose this helps.

Try under the front seats in a pull out tray, or
in a hidden box in the floor?

Thanks everyone. Lots of places to check for when I get home. Hope I find it, as it looks like quite a faff if I don't...

If you can't find it my daughter suggested trying a scrap yard to see if they have a key that fits.
Good luck it sounds as if you might need it.

Many older cars as with mine, the locking nut key can often be found in the ashtray. Its not the correct place but i,ve found this with many cars that i,ve owned. If not you could always try the spares dept at Vauxhalls on the Whitfield ind est, probably wouldnt cost much for a new one, thats presuming they are standard Vauxhall alloys.

The jack and the vehicle tools are in a ba g,
strapped into a stowage compartment in
the floor of the luggage compartment with
a rubber strap.
To open the stowage compartment, lift the
rear carpeting then raise, rotate and pull
the ring.
To close it, insert the lugs on the front rim of
the lid into the recesses and lock into place.

If you haven't got a spare wheel, Gary, what would you do if a flat tire occurred?
Shouldn't all cars have to have a spare wheel by regulation?

A lot of cars no longer have spare wheels and as stated, there are no regulations that state a car must have one. Reasons given are mostly cost based but weight and the affect on MPG are allegedly other considerations.

There's still a well under the rear floor where the jack is, that's normally where the key is kept, along with the jack and wheel brace. If all else fails, ask the bloke you bought it from!

Run-flat tyres also mean there less of a need for normal tyres.

Blimey, lots of responses. I had a quick poke around in the back this morning, but it was freezing, so I'm going for a better look later. There isn't much room in the floor as it is taken up with extra seating. I have a couple of side pockets to explore. There space where the spare would go is under the car. I'll let you know what happens...
