Yes, police and ambulances flashed by this morning culminating in the Air Ambulance landing I assume at St Edmunds. It took off shortly after at about 10.08 and appeared to make a bee line for the QEQM.

It definitly landed somewhere near St Edmunds which is very near me. I do hope it was an exercise and nothing really serious.
It appears Frith Road is closed at the moment.
My grandson says there are three ambulances and two fire engines and the air ambulance has just landed again.

Came past just now. An eyewitness states that a car came round the corner of Barton Road and Frith Road at a fair rate of knots, lost control, mounted the pavement outside the Girls Grammar School and ploughed into a group of people. The helicopter is indeed back and has managed to land on the road at the junction. Considering the buildings, a briiliant piece of piloting.
Considering the severity of the situation, and it is severe, I have declined to take pictures.

I have just had another call from Jamie. It appears to be a road traffic accident near Avenue Road with four people involved, he has counted eleven possible paramedics. Being one of the nosey public in the area he is relying on gossip as to what happened.
He says the air ambulance is in the road not St Edmunds. Traffic is being diverted down Beaconsfield as I understand it.

I was the same terry. Stuck in traffic for a while and watching that pilot was amazing. lets all hope for a good outcome.
While where on the subject, I have made postings before about this stretch of road and how dangerous it is. speed and mobile phones are not a good mixture and having worked at the girls grammar for the last 2 years some of the idiots I have seen going past is rediculous.
Barton and Frith road needs some form of control.
grass grows by the inches but dies by the feet.
hi does anyone know what sort of a car was involved.??

Thank goodness it was not a weekday when more people would be around.
I agree the speed some cars enter Frith Road is frightening, an area with three schools in it should have vehicles going no faster than 20mph.
The problem is how to slow everyone down, I think there is too much traffic for speed bumps.
With regards to the car, Jamie said none of them looked damaged but a black one was facing the wrong way.

This involved my daughters friend, the daughter of a friend of mine. That road is appallingly dangerous especially considering how near it is to schools - Barton Road itself has eejits racing along it all the time. I don't know many details about this incident particularly yet, but I do know that there are fools speeding around this area day and night and no action is taken to prevent or punish. It can be really scary to see how fast they go up and down PArk Avenue, along Barton Road, and more imprtantly in this case, into Frith Road. When will the police stop upping their fine rates with soft targets and put more effort into actually improving safety?

Can cofirm as My Mum lives in Avenue Road that the accident involved a car and 3 ladies,Ian is right there have been so many accidents on this junction,I cycle down Barton Road/Frith Road and you take your life in your own hands. When we have pushed for a 20mph speed limit we are told it isn't going to happen, because it is a main road,or there have to be so many accidents or deaths.
The whole area from Cherry Tree to Morrisons should and could be 20mph,but the Police say it has to be self controlled in otherwords the cars will not be checked if they went more than 20mph.
These accidents are tragic and I will bring this up again,Avenue Road is used as a rat run,and can be dangerous.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
Thanks JHG. It is ridiculous for the police to say it would have to be self-policing - set the damned limit and get the damned cameras up - it doesn't stop them elsewhere, and there seem to be compelling reasons here, so close to schools and with houses so close to the road. I have seen cyclists on this road and you are right - it is a potential deathtrap.
Unusual to see cyclists on the road, I thought they stuck to pavements in Dover?
I hate GATSO's with a passsion, but surely a road as dangerous and noted for speeding as this is, should be covered?
Hopefully those involved in today's incident will be okay.

ian warned about this a long while ago, i feel sure that there is or was department of transport guidelines that there had to be a fatality in a particular location before they would consider measures to improve safety.
If so, that is outrageous and probably immoral. Oh, wait - I forgot, morality is passe.

Church-goers injured in Dover crash
|
A woman pedestrian was taken to hospital by air ambulance on Sunday morning August 1 after a crash at Frith Road, Dover.
Fire, police and ambulance crews were called to the scene following a report that a car had collided with three people who were walking down Frith Road, near the junction with Avenue Road, opposite the Dover Girls' Grammar School. They were on their way to the morning service at Charlton Church.
A middle-aged woman suffered serious head and leg injuries. The air ambulance landed on the road at a five-way junction with Barton Road, Old Charlton Road, Connaught Road, Castle Avenue and Frith Road. The woman was flown to Romford Hospital in Essex which specialises in the treatment of neurological injuries.
Two others, a mother and daughter, were taken to the William Harvey Hospital at Ashford, but were discharged after treatment.
Police closed the road for several hours while crash investigation officers examined the scene to determine what had happened.
Any witnesses are asked to contact the police on 01622 690690.

I cycled by at 12.30 and the road was still closed with Police all over the place and a camera set up on the corner of Castle Street, the car was half on half off the pavement in Avenue Road, didn't seen any damage but could only see the off side.
They were taking measurements around the scene.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!

Let's hope they caught the driver and he didn't manage to run off.
Probably high on something, but whether that's adrenalin, drugs or drink, treat him harshly; most motoring offences involving injuries or death are treated far too leniently nowadays.
Roger
I don't think we should assume driver fault just yet. The accident may have been caused by mechanical failure or a burst tyre. Either of these in that place would have disasterous results for anyone involved.

I am terribly sorry to hear that injuries like this have been sustained. We can only hope that everyone involved will be okay. My thoughts this morning with the lady in hospital, and her family.
