I fully agree with the points raised, that is the advantage that I feel Doverforum has, as far as the 'finger on the pulse' in Dover is concerned. Due to being a 24/7 operation and also responsible members of the community posting on the Letters page to voice their opinions, albeit seen as negative by other forms of communication. The local papers have the option of not including letters which they feel do not fit in with their editorial policy running at a given time.
Let us move forward and turn a few 'sods' so to speak, then at least we can see that the town is advancing towards the common goal.

baz
valid point baz, may i add that most local presses letter pages carry criticism of the readers location.
what would be the point of sending a letter saying that everything was hunky dory?
i am sure that overall dover forum is little different from any other in our sceptic isle!!
if we could not criticise, the local leaders could get away scot free with any shoody work.
Well said Barry and Howard.
Once even a modicum of progress can be seen - the turning of the proverbial first sod, as Paul puts it - then you'll see the smile return to my face!
If, however, all we're going to carry on getting is soft-soap, false optimism, grandiose 'plans' and finely spun words, then I'm sorry but constructive criticism will remain my default setting.
Time for action!

getting back to posts earlier in the thread.
our mercury last week berated certain people on forums for spreading negative images of our town.
the editorial today in the very same organ, showed a picture of some discarded furniture on our river bank or in the river itself.

All quiet on the cable car front? Any 'news', anyone?

Wouldn't imagine so - now that the money is available I guess that consultants need to come up with a second phase. As far as the publicity is concerned, it is little more than back of fag packet at the moment....
Been nice knowing you :)

Paul, will this visit have as much effect as the government minister that came to down to see the problems with our roads?
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

I do hope the last posting doesnt mean Paul will not post again .He works tirelessly for this district .I dont always agree with every idea but you cannot fault the man for trying .Beleive you me some of the people who post on here are very trying.I suppose some bright spark will say we get paid but every weekend is spent reading and printing out agendas .Some times we actually get to meet people who elected us .I shall be out this afternoo catching up on ward work.
Sue - please stop patronising us by telling us either we don't understand what you do or that you do such a fabulous job......if you like the work, suck it up and get on with it. You are accountable to the people, try to remember that - all the people, not just a select few who you like and get on with. I am sure you do, in reality, do a good job, we just don't need to be forever hearing it. The evidence should be out there........
I cannot imagine Paul W means he won't post again - it appears Chris P was just raising a legitimate question, so surely he cannot have taken umbrage over that? I don't know him personally but he always appears much more robust than that!!!

Bern its because of postimgs like yours that people have left the forum.I donot need to tell you what I do and when but thought sometimes Jo public need to be aware of what we do .Its not all social events. At least I dont bore your socks off by telling you what Im doing every day and why Im too busy to post .One can never do too a good job and votes should never be taken for granted .
Yes I am accountable to all the people and indeed many Labour councillors and the MP live in the ward I represent ,and I get on with them very well. The river turnout was the highest in the district so I dont need you to make unjust comments about me.I never take my vote for granted you can never please all the people all the time .I see you post on another thread perhaps you can read between the lines .Dont have a go at me speak to your local councillors .There is a cabinet meeting tomorrow at 11.00 am open to the public .Full council on wednesday 10th at 6.00pm
Sue - take it easy! I am not having a go, just raising issues and reflecting on your presentation. I am sure we can debate as grown ups! I do, indeed, often find your posts patronising, but I am sure others don't. I am also sure you do a great job, and we need councillors who do that! But it is often in "your" (for Your read anyone in the public eye) interests to have reflections on performance and presentation: I would find it hard to relate to someone , or vote for someone, who spoke down to me or assumed I knew little (which is so often how your postings read), or who made a point of ensuring I knew they did a difficult job and it was demanding. Duh!! Of course it is!!! Chill Sue!! Leaving the forum because it's a challenge does not reflect well on your debating and networking skills..........

Hullo again Bern .Without sounding patronising I do have a challenging role on the council.I have to attend lots of meetings where people present have not had the required training for debating etc.I was also Chairman of The goiverning Body of a school which was very challenging .I naturally assume most people who post on here are up for straight answers.
I think one of the best posters on here is Barry Williams ,very good at debate .
I have had a few run ins with Barry .
I hope we will meet up one day as you will see how skilled i am at networking .Meanwhile you have a long journey to work .
I don't doubt for a moment the challenges you face at work. Ditto your skills etc etc etc etc etc etc. I suppose I was just hoping you would not leave the forum so that we could see them on here......

Bern,Sue and I are friends and we get along and she does a really good job,and because of her positon she will have her photo taken and get a fair amount of press. She works hard in her Ward and on the Council,I just wish that some of us could get the same coverage on the opposition side of the Council. Not because we want it but because the ideas and suggestions that we put to the Tories are sometimes taken up and used.
But it will still be the ruling parties idea, and I wish that everyone had time and gave the effort Sue does for the Council work,Yes Sue is lucky that she is now 'retired' where some of us work full time and fit in our Council Work,we are not asking for praise and in a Public Forum where people tell us they do not know what is going on well Sue will tell you on her portfolio what she can.Remember we are also different parties and don't see things the same as Sue all the time, but in someways I think she is a Socialist Tory!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
JHG - respect to you and to Sue! I am sure she works hard and well, as do many councillors. I do find many of her comments patronising in the extreme and would agree to differ with her on some things, and feel I have a right to reflect that to her as well as the positive stuff. Challenges are what councillors thrive on, as a rule........I will continue to challenge but hope not to veer into the patronising or discourteous. My main suggestionto Sue is to read throguh before posting.........I sometimes forget to do that myself and the most appalling twaddle gets printed!!! Perhaps with better scrutiny of her posting she might appear less patronising or self-promoting.
