08:518543Hey Guzz
It's not that the above guys are being "shameful" not wearing a poppy, maybe they were wearing jackets that didn't have a button-hole and making a pin-hole would spoil their jacket ?
I have a poppy and when I'm wearing a jacket with a button-hole, that's where the poppy goes, but some of my casual jackets with waterproofing, don't, I'm certainly not being disrespectful.

09:118595I feel that these men have been badly let down, the past governments sold them down the line, by joining the EU, and the countries together through the tunnel, we let them dictate to us what we can and cannot do, these men died to keep this country free.
I have the greatest repect for these men, and will remember them, and remember WHY they gave their lives

14:078872Once again today I was at the War Memorial Remembrance Day Service. I have been there providing a sound system most years since the mid 70's. I am always willing to help out wherever I can because I have a great respect for those that gave, and go on giving, their lives so that I and my family have security. I am always at the St Georges Day parade again providing the sound. This year saw me at the Merchant Navy statue unveiling. I have never made a charge for what I do nor have I ever claimed any expences. I do it as my contribution.
So if you think that the reason that I won't wear a poppy is "trivial" then put it in perspective. What do you put in the box for a poppy, £1? The going rate for this morning would have been £120.
I do my bit in other ways.

23:378899I agree with you Bern.I attend with those who live in my neighbourhood .I cant be doing with all the pomp .In River we have a church service then go outside and stand round our village war memorial .Today there seemed to be more children than ever .One little girl had her poppies in her hair .They all stood quietly during the silence and when the names were read aloud some stood to attention .I was amazed how well behaved they were.
I do hope Paul you are not going to flood the forum with pictures .Today is not about photo calls

09:338907Ah sure Sue its what we do. The clue is in our 'social' tag, its our niche and remit. We tend to concentrate on people at events as is fairly clear to all now. The reason it can very often be the same people is that these same people are the towns activists, if I can put it that way. But research shows us people like the pictures. I saw your comments on the frontpage. We havent photographed councillors getting ready for this ceremony for a number of years and Deal and Sandwich is not our area.We dont cover that far as we havent the resources. We just do Dover.
Twould be far easier for ColetteB and myself to take one picture and go home. A lot of effort goes into taking them and then reproducing them for publication here later.

19:238930Sue I'm sorry you should think its the same old crowd but you should know better that anyone its difficult enough to get out to the public what we as councillors do and the events that go on in Dover.
So as Paul has said they only do Dover it helps to gets the message across and people seem to like the write ups and pictures that go with them.

23:378953no-one could ever accuse you of bragging susan.
we all appreciate that the reason you are not in the remembrance day pics, is that you are camera shy.
