I haven`t been along the A2 since December, (always A20/M20), but I went along there this morning and took a shot of this new bridge structure, looking towards Canterbury. Neat little, very narrow road`s running off it either side, is it a new cycleway?
or walkway?

Thanks Paul, I wondered what it was myself - just thought it was a new footbridge. £1m for a bridleway, eh? Seems the horsey community have some real clout.......

Thank you Paul. Just out of curiosity, is it a public bridleway, or a private one? I`m not familiar with who bridleway`s are for. And, are walker`s still allowed along it?

Scotchie posted on this a while ago. I think I can expand on my comment then. I just hope that us townies don't have to suffer potholes at the expense of of the "country set" being able to cross the road on horse back. I'm surprised the Princess Anne wasn't invited to open this waste of money.

We have named this bridge as Dennis's Bridge, after my Uncle Dennis, you might remember him Paul? He had a stroke and was taken to K&C Hospital and whilst visiting him, we watched this bridge being built. Sadly he has passed away now, so we (his Family) have dedicated the Bridge to him.

Sorry to hear about Dennis, Gary.
Another good'un gone from the old days.
I understand the Waiting Miner project is progressing well.

I repeat, a total waste of (ratepayers) money. How on earth was this allowed when other more day to day needs are not addressed?

As a old bridge repair man I must say I loved working on them,I have work on most of the river bridges in London, and alot of railways one to across the UK and some of the best are in Norfolk, some of them well over 100years old and the swing ones to great,I do miss working most of time we were living in digs.

I suspect and hope that bridle paths, which have been around for hundreds of years, having naturally evolved for man to travel at a reasonable pace from one place to another, will long outlast the lunacy of concreting over our countryside so that we can get from one place to somewhere else totally similar, in the minimum time.
A bit in the dark here. Who actually paid for this bridge?
Surely the bridge will come in useful. We only have to train badgers, hedgehogs, toads etc to use it.......
Diane, the toads are all in Maidstone and Westminster, they're hardly likely to make use of a £1m bridge designed for Camilla types.
I suspect Toad would be using the A2.....

we seem to be getting heavily involved in this one, i thought that it did not come from our council taxes.
Great news Howard. It was a donation from some well-wisher or funding operation then? Absolutely no cost the UK tax payer? Brilliant if true.

It is a Highways Agency project so would have come from a different 'pot' though everying in some way is our taxes....
- Safe crossing for pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders
- Easy access across the A2 at Kingston
- Suitable for wheelchair access
- By providing a safe crossing to bus stops on the A2 it is hoped that the bridge will encourage people in the area to use the buses as a green mode of transport, for travel to and from Canterbury and Dover.
- The bridge will also link up an extensive network of footpaths and bridleways either side of the A2, including the North Downs Way National Trail
Been nice knowing you :)
THanks Scotchie; glad it's not just a sop to the horsey types as some were leading us to believe.
