11:499263Just to point out that I actually said that,'he may have had a glass of wine along with many other guests that day'. It has been misquoted (or spun) in a few papers, including the Telegraph Barry.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

12:459265Vic states inter alia "....aske the group first if that is alright with them..."
I thought it was just poor old honest and trusting Vic that had been duped now we learn that a whole group of village idiots were conned. The plot thickens.

13:549268I think there are a lot of red faces right now in Dover. I dont think it is a matter of being conned, as it seems no-one has lost any money, but it is certainly embarrassing for all of us in Dover.
It is easy to be hard on Vic but he at least meant well and thought he had found someone who could benefit Dover. Yes, it would be nice to hear who it was who benefited from the £1000. At least someone will have benefitted from this mans escapade!
He was obviously a fantasist rather than a criminal who, if he handed over £1000, got even more caught up in his fantasy perhaps than Vic!!

14:249272BarryW is right - but it's not embarrasing if we decide it isn't! It's funny, is getting us a piece in the National Press, could be used to springboard some useful stuff - Maggie on a different thread has suggested asking Rossi to visit...why not?! He seems to have a sense of humour and is approachable - what a coup!!! It all depends on how you look at things - we need more fun, more creativity, better leadership, more grown up behaviour from our local reps - come on, chaps and chapesses, sieze the day!!!!!!!

14:259273Jacqui - please see my reply on a different thread.

14:299275I can see it now FOVM. Over to the FONC to see if they will switch.

15:159281I have already asked the question about the real Francis Rossi and will continue to ask.

15:249283Come on you lot
Get of your high horses, lower your noses from pointing up to the sky and see this for what it is...
a complete and utter hoot.
Vic "loose canon" Matcham got taken for a ride by a con man, who it appears donated a grand of his own money to a local group.
The only person who might be embarassed by this is Vic and he doesn't seem bothered.
So come lets all see this for what it is.
After all it is not like he promised to redevelop the town and did not deliver on any of the dates published is it?

15:299287Priceless article!
Positive side is that even though it may be personally embarassing for the organisers, at least Dover is out there in the national press, hopefully it will bring notice to this neck of the woods.
How about our own Live-Aid featuring a swathe of 'Tributes'?
Dover Court look great in the pic there Mandie.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

15:319288Yes Ross it is a hoot the Town has become a national joke, you really could not make it up.
The biggest hoot is surely the Councillor who knew but didn't want to say anything for fear of spoiling the day.
Where do we get them from?

15:369289Ross,Thank you for that if this goes on like this I might just get voted back in next time and it is a yes to that aswell I will stand again and again, you must say one thing about all this it has put our town back on the map I am geting phones from all over and they have not been bad ones Yes they are having agood laugh about it and that has made me happy knowing at a time like this when things are on the down side that the public are opening up their newspaper and for once can have a good old laugh we have put back the smile on faces all over the land.
I remain yours faithfully Old Vic Matcham
Ps If I die today I know I have made the public laugh again I am always doing it and making my family laugh to. so have a good laugh at it all

16:039291I dont think we are laughing Vic ,complete embarrasement allround .Yes we all want to put Dover on the map but not for these reasons .I was in the Houses of Parliament on Thursday and still when they look at your badge they ask how is it with the asylum seekers .A lot of us work hard to promote the district and fingers crossed I hope i said the right thing to the right person ,not a con man .
I dont think its a fan club Vic .
You are a nice enough chap but come of it it is embarrasing .If I were on the Town Council i think a few searching questions need to be asked .Where did the money go ??

16:209292Sue If you would like to aske questions come across the rd and see me it has been said on here there was no money from the D,T,C, AT ANY TIME.
You know that anyway you said this before it as nothing to do with the D,D,C, so lets keep it that way and we will all be happy, well I will be.

16:509293Lighten up!! It sometimes feels as if the locals reps are a**e about face and take the wrong things lightly and the wrong things seriously. Oh yes, I forgot, this is about their reputations, a most serious matter.
15 November 2008
16:519294PS - if Parliament is so out of touch and insensitive as to ask quasi-humurous questions about asylum seekers I wonder if we have the right reps there too?
