17:429297Hi
I don't know why we are taking the hit & miss out of Vic when we have a DDC that think that the best thing they can build on a prime site on the South East coast and gateway to the world is another *loody supermarket.
I think we all know who has been duped and it's us by the DDC constantly telling us that ASDA was the only offer on the table.Totally untrue.
So Vic .....rollocks to the money that may or may not have not changed hands...its petty cash in comparison to the money that DDC has wasted over the last 30 years and still we are left with derelict sites and no development.
Next week I am bringing Houdini to Dover in order to illustrate how DDC can successfully wriggle out of their next local issue and problem.

It was/is unnecessary and untrue.

18:279306I quite liked it.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

I sometimes wish that I was off this planet...but unfortunately that will not happen until I shed this mortal coil.
Roger
I regret upsetting anyone but sometimes the truth will out.So much inactivity only gives rise to gossip and speculation. In order to quell the tide of dis-satisfaction all we ,the public, require is
a)a date for the demolition of Burlington Bertie House
b)a denial by DDC that not one single company has tabled plans to redevelop the site of the crypt and surrounding area
c)that no company approached the DDC with a proposal to build a hotel, bar, shops restaurants and car parking facilities on the DTIZ site.
Buildings have been demolished so when does the next phase begin?
Hey lads we have nothing better to do than run down the council especially when we have, rightly or wrongly, become the laughing stock of the rest of the UK.

20:029313Marek - your original posting was fair and good. I reiterate: the local reps seem to be a**e about face and appear to take the wrong things seriously and the wrong things lightly. Clear out the stable!!!!!

00:369331Sorry..I must be missing the point..perhaps Watty is correct in assuming that I'm from another planet....but we appear to be getting our knickers in a twist over something which is,in my mind, trivial but overlooking the more important issues of the day.
Hey what the hell..I like living in my dream world where people care about each other, where they all work towards a common goal and leave some form of mark or beauty behind for future generations to admire and love.
Thank God for Stonehenge.....they must have needed adequate shelter but decided to put all their time and energy into a construction of such enormity that thousands of years later people from all over the world are still flocking to gaze upon it.
Not to worry we will have ASDA as our legacy and vision of the future.
Beam me up Scotty

We all feel like this Marek - all of us.
The support for the regeneration of Dover, from a DDC viewpoint, is completely cross-party.
What makes you think that DDC or the Conservatives don't care about each other/other people ?
I've said before that there's an enormous difference between socialism and social responsibility - looking after the vulnerable and less well off, those less able to care for themselves.
I think Labour have shown that they care less about the vulnerable, the weak and the less well-off by they actions over the last few years.
If your socialism equals laziness, benefit scrounging and a lifstyle of living off the State, then I'm against that completely.

08:489335'I've said before that there's an enormous difference between socialism and social responsibility'
No there isn't.
Socialism does not equal laziness but does allow individuals to exploit a system in place to support others. These 'scroungers' are operating as 'individuals', placing their own 'self interest' first. Funny how both these terms form the ethos of Conservative thinking.
Breakthroughs in "looking after the vulnerable and less well off, those less able to care for themselves." have all been based within the ethos of socialism, from an effective sewerage system to the NHS.

15:229340One of the differences between proper left and right sectors is that left tend (not always, I know, give me a break!) to encourage self determination and responsibiity whereas the right tend to be charity and power-based. That's horribly simplistic but at bottom accurate: as you point out, it's the "individual" and "self interest" at the heart of the Right "care", and usually "support" and "community" for the Left. there are differences, there are deviations, but that's a good summary of the majority. Both sectors are open to exploitation and corruption, both have disadvantages and advantages - I guess it is often the way in which they are operated that counts as much as their philosophy. Meaningful, respectful support and care, from my point of view, stems from socialist bases, and chairty, welfare, gratitude-laden, beholden hand-outs from the other side of the specturm. I know there will be many to challenge that, but it is my own experience.
