MR Walkden why are you talking about finding the funds for priory out of you call 106 when there was £250.000+ ten years ago put by for the priory playing area? ONLY now it should be well over that amount today if it was still there but as we all know it is not there anymore and atth is very time I am looking at trying to put a outside gym in at whitfield and the cost of doing that starts off at about 15000 only but there are better ones but even looking at the best one cost would be about £50.000 so looking at what was put by in 2002 we could have had a new playing area + outside gym for less then £100.000 and still the D,D,C, would have had about £150.000 left in the kitty .What happen to that funding where did it go?

Vic, funding is available should someone come up with a suitable site.
For the record money agreed on section 106 is time limited, normally 5 years. If the scheme is not built or road not built the money should/has to be returned to developer. In normal circumstances it can't be held or applied to other schemes without consent of developer.

Thank you for that Mr Watkins.
As I am not a town cllr up there anymore and also I do not live in Westbury rd and have not done so for about 25years .Iam not going to say anymore about it ,it is up to the local Town and District cllrs and the public that live in that ward to do what they think is best. Vic Matcham

Thank you Vic.
I will be pushing for the section 106 money, but we must find a site. Apparantly Keith knows lots of sites, so perhaps he can suggest one in the Priory part of the ward, that hasn't been discounted.

I have spoke to some of the locals in westbury and have been told there was a playground just off belgrave rd / westbury crescent? Can anyone recall this? I certainly cant remember. Would that be an alternative? I know its the access site but it would not be far away and its direct accessible from the road.
A playground dont have to be huge in size, it can be a reasonable size.
Your thoughts please

Heike, i think you are referring to the playground at the back of the community centre 2 doors from me.
used by the play school there.

In all the years that I have lived in this area (well over 50 years), there has only ever been one site in the Priory area, that is on the hills, just under the football pitch, what you are referring to Howard has never been a play area or playground open to public, it belonged to the then Christ Church School and now belongs to the Community centre and is used by the Pre-School that hires the centre, this is not open for public use.
There was one other area on the hills, that was above Hardwicke Road, and was the Maxton play area but this was also removed.
There is a vacant plot of land, that could be compulsory purchased, and that is on the Malvern Road, used at present as a dumping ground, this land in the past has applied for planning permission, it has been granted for housing, but it has never been acted on this has been going on for around 10 years, so if they are not going to build, get the land and use for play area

So there you have it
Shiela has one suggested site
others that could be consider
ed(after consulting locals)
1; KCC land in front of Ex poultons
2; land (grass ) that leads from vale view road, to glen grove
3; westmount site
4; clarendon place lower part (where childrens play area was sited)
for starters

Thanks Sheila
There's two plots of land round there, the one up from the old Boston Guest House has extant planning permission for residential development and while it is extant, it cannot be considered for a play area
The one below this, is smaller and is behind the JC Decaux advertising board and next to the old Boston Guest House, I have also enquired about and suggested this area, but both have been dismissed because, the smaller one (behind the Decaux board) is deemed too small and is less than the required 20 metres from residential properties, so neither can be used.
Keith, your suggestions have all been put to the relevant authorities and where applicable, have been rejected.
1 - KCC have said no, it's not in their plans for future use.
2 - I believe they (KCC) felt it was too close to the school.
3 - There won't be a play area on the Westmount site, but there will be a sum of (section 106) money available for a play area close by (if one can be found).
4 - The old play area will not come back into play (excuse the pun) for the various reasons put forward in previous postings.

We will have to agree to disagree
We can hide behind the 'elf and safety' on the Clarendon place site, or look at the slight slope at the botttom ares
The site (2) was rejected by the school at the time, but since then that headteacher was dismissed and the new head should be approached(although why cant a play area be near a school? a lot are!!)
it looks to me like priory isnt in the plans for a play area so all excuses are being put forward not to have one

Those (first) two sites would be of much less benefit to people living in the Clarendon area, those around that area could go up to Elmsvale, it's just up the road, what is really required for the benefit of the majority of people, is finding one around the Clarendons etc.

I still think the old play area a better place, yes it is on the slope, but it would not take a lot to make it disabled friendly, as this is one reason the area is rejected, a zig-zag gradual slope would enable this, the site is access-able from Clarendon Place, although the access is privately owned, it is a public right of way, the owner has never tried to prevent people from using it

Just for one note to say from a member of the Alotment down near belgrave road. The KCC never intented to build a new playarea/ playground on any available space and if, they would of been used to build new Housing. As this did not go down well, it handed the management of the land back to the owner of the church...
Why finding a place if it would be turned down anyway???
So even if someone does come up with a drawing plan or a great idea.. it will be blocked without actually been looked at?
For me it was quite interesting, as there are a view people in that area just saying, dont mention Play area its like you upsetting someones day!!!
So People arent really happy at all
