Very noble sentiments and quotes there Ross but...I dunno is it all a bit too noble and grand for the modern day. After all do you think your neighbour would die in this day and age so that you could have free speech. I doubt it.
The other quote about nobody spoke out etc..etc...well couldnt you argue that about Nick Griffin, he was there poisoning the airwaves but nobody spoke out. After all he is a total racist and spreading the word and the word is spreading.
Pity we havent got any black members. Then we would see it from the view of those he would persecute.
We do have Irish, female, gay, asian - hiow many minorities do we need to make a group?
PaulB - I resent your dismissal of "noble sentiment". moral standards and ethical bases are more common than you seem to think, and some are arrived at by a very rocky road, all the more to be cherished.

Paul he may or may not be - remember no prosecution of him or the BNP has so far succeeded in proving that to be the case. Whilst I find their views obnoxious in the extreme, I believe that banning them will add a cachet particularly for the young, that actually defeats the point of banning them. The only way to deal with people like the BNP is to openly debate with them and prove that their views are founded on lies and half truths.

It is why C18 is so attractive to certain people - it is "banned", "dangerous" (allegedly - actually it is mainly made up of inadequates whose only thrill is in bullying and violence. Sad and sexless people) and "elite". Not!!!

these people usually end up in court after having their bedsits raided.
far right pamphlets, bomb making recipes, the odd swastika on the wall.
they are usually drawn to any group that it is ostracised from society.
