on my way to a birthday party this afternoon in the badlands of elms vale i chanced upon this.
upon closer inspection i found the reason for it, happily the rain kept off and the guests could enjoy this method of transport on the happy couples big day.

Brilliant. Those who knew the late Steve Callacher (head of maths at the boys' Grammar) and attended his funeral will remember the transport I laid on for the mourners to get from Blakes to Barham and back.
After his death the executors asked us to arrange the food and drink before and after, and to arrange transport for as many people as necessary. The funeral was set for 4pm on a Friday in early June, i.e. a school day. As numbers climbed past 50 I realised to my dismay that getting a fleet of taxis or minibuses at a time when they were all under contract to the education department of KCC was totally out of the question. Quietly panicking on the Monday morning before the funeral, I was looking out of the window when a large blue open-top bus trundled past. On the side it said: To hire this bus phone 01303 ...... So I did. £250 for the afternoon. I phoned the executors and said, what about it, it seats 79 people? Steve's family liked the idea so much they cancelled their 2 limos (saving £450) and came on the bus. We almost filled it. Everyone had a great time and thank God it didn't rain!

HOWARD;
Hope you dont mind me changing your thread just for a mo
and im sure it will get back on track.
PETER;
Rather than starting a new thread might be good to com,ment here.
on your open top bus funeral thingy lol
iv always found funerals strange things, it must be realy hard for the vicar to get the service right, does he/she have a laugh/joke about the geezers life?
does he stay strickly in the guidlines and deadly seriousl(no pun lol)
i always find a little bit of humour goes a long way to help a very sad time
for many.
over the years iv watched differnt vicars/people trying to guage it right, some hit it off, others fail badly, very difficult.

They might be a little more selfish around my way...they tend to hire these...

If you mean open top buses as a scheduled service round the town they haven't run since 2006. ( Previously operated by Guide Friday / City Sightseeing ). Despite lots of enthusiasm and effort ( e.g. the recent DTC scheme ) you cannot get away from the fact that it isn't commercially viable. The open top buses in the pictures above are regulars round the town on private hires and odd days, e.g. when DTC have hired them to run round at various events. Indeed, they will be running between Dover Transport Museum and East Kent Railway at Eythorne tomorrow, Sunday 15th July, as part of the museums Classic Car day. They are also sometimes to be seen on busy days on the cruise terminal shuttle bus service, though of course it has to be said that we haven't had much open top weather recently!

I'd heard that there was a Classic Car Rally somewhere but couldn't find out where it is or when - thanks Dave.
East Kent Railway have some ambitious Plans linked to the Miners Trail etc and want to expand their track. I wish them well.

I can remember going on the open top sightseeing bus a few years back now when my daughters were little. It was great fun dodging the branches of the trees when going uphill towards the cliffs etc
