23:2234919things seem to have gone very quiet on this subject.
not long ago we had statements from lorraine, reg, chas, gwyn and paul w on the subject.
all seemed very urgent in case the money went elsewhere.
i seem to remember a time scale of about a month was mentioned!!
that seems to have gone past, can we safely assume that we have to accept that a hospital will not be built locally in our generation?

08:0434925I haven't heard anything either Howard.
I was advised by two different sources that the money runs out at the end of February 2010, the other source said two years.
I'm sure there's been lots of behind the scenes activity, but just not been made public.
With two different factions fighting for their chosen location, it was bound to become a football, being kicked here and there.
If everyone had been behind either the Mid-Town area, or Whitfield, we would have got somewhere by now and agreement reached. Now, as promised/threatened, we may not have one for many years.
If it hadn't been the flood-plain, it would have been something else that would have stopped it.

08:0634926Agreed - there will always be ways to prevent progress. We need a bit of unity right now before the opportunity is lost. Nice one, Howard, for kick starting it again before it is too late.

13:0534933i think it is already too late bern, i have to go along with what roger has said about two factions.
the money will not be held for two years, of that i am certain.

22:4034956lets get a little honesty into this
Roger you clearly supported the town option and would nt accomodate the whitfield option so this is about everyone pulling together
not I know best
Dover deserves better

23:0734961this has spread over two threads, a lot of that is my fault(apologies).
having said that i believe that roger is right in supporting the town option, the part it would play towards regeneration is desperately important.
it would still be nice to hear the views of the main players though.

23:1134962HOWARD
As i said in other thread taking the I KNOW BEST way, is the sure way of Dover losing out on the hospital Dover deserves.
Whether we agree on flood plains or not, clearly the option is not being considered, so we cAN spend a lot of time argueing about it, but if its not happening there would it not be better looking for a site that has suport.
I dont care where it goes, but i do care that Dover needs a hospital

23:2234963of course it does keith, i never thought we stood a chance before.
now we have a chance, the spectre of egos and political agendas takes over.
priory play area?
sea change free money?
dover port?
town centre management?
high speed train?
even the screen in market square still involves political point scoring.
the next two disasters will involve the one way system and bus service on the maxton and priory area.

08:1735004A bit of healthy conversation and debate is an excellent way to ensure that decisions are taken more fairly, but the amount of bickering that goes on locally beggars belief, mainly because it reduces Dovers credibility and capacity for development. For goodness' sake: talk, make decisions, act - simple as that.

08:5535010I think the decision on the Hospital has been made some time ago but just not telling the public yet,my feeling it will be at Whit field ,I think they are going to sell if not already the Buckland Hospital,I for one will be sorry to see it go.But the N.H.S. will get alot of funding for that site for housing,we have talked about this happing alot of the last few years and I still think that will happen. We all know the Town centre site will not happen as we know.

23:0135083all rather negative, not surprising though.
any site in whitfield would need planning permission, a lot easier said than done, as we know.

15:0035220have to disagree keith, the posts in this thread and others on this subject of the hospital have shown no joint agreement on the issue.
hence we are all at an impasse, the people who made most noise earlier in the campaign have gone strangely quiet.
there cannot be anything more negative than that.

18:0735237They've stopped it coming to the Town Centre Howard, which is what they wanted.
I still believe that the flood risk could be engineered out - but I have no idea what the cost would be - a survey must have been done on this, or is being done.

18:5835250Given the appalling driving conditions and cock-up on the roads to Whitfield today, surely there must be some doubt cast on its use as a hospital site?

20:4335260whitfield always suffers worse than the town, bad weather and traffic cause more snarl ups in that neck of the woods.
