17:4431392Thats a good one Colin..yes interesting isnt it..that generation and my father did too...willingly ate tripe and yet its true they did describe rubbish they saw on TV or in newspapers or wherever as "Tripe!"...so the word tripe signifies something totally bad, yet on the other hand they willingly ate the stuff
That tells you something about the post war 'make do' diet..semoline tapioca and tripe ! sheesh! but then I guess if you have nothing else...

19:3231406One thing I`ve never tried Howard, and that`s a kebab. Did hear somewhere it was one of the most unhealthy fastfoods around.

19:3531407the shish and kofte perfectly good food colin, can be quite delicious, you see the meat before it is cooked.
never never feel tempted to try a modern day doner kebab colin, i will not tell you what is in it, best not to know.
the strange thing is when they first appeared in this country back in the early 70's they were delicious.

22:5131672You never see rabbits in the butchers any more.
Does any one like a bit of wild rabbit?

23:1431674Every thing that could be put in front of you is perfectly edible, It's just what goes through your head when you see it.
Iv'e tried most of whats been mentioned on here, too many to tell you what I did and didn't like but one has stuck in my mind for many a year.
On holiday with a friend and his aged gran ( I was about 13 ) in Bridlington, we had been fishing all day down on the beach and came home starving and ready to eat anything.
Dinner was served and I ate the lot, 1hr later feeling tired and full I asked what the meat was that we had eaten because i thought it was very nice.
I had eaten sheeps brains for the first and last time. It was nice and I liked it but the thought of it just put me right off. All in the mind.
I must admit Iv'e eaten worse since.
Bit's of meat with exotic names. come on you lot thinking caps on. ( Marek )

00:5131680Biltong is one of my favourites - hard to imagine leaving your meat out to dry in the wind for a month and then eating it!
Best thing I have ever tasted was the Ostrich version which I consumed in the back of a pick-up truck in S.Africa with a several bottles of Castle - sheer heaven with the sun on my back and a BBQ to go to...
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

08:1231690Eating sheeps brains Ian, didn't make you follow people did it ?
Done that a few times Buddy - in Rhodesia too.
We went to a restaurant there called the Train, it had four carriages as the seating area and a central place where the food was prepared and cooked.
They did every kind of food you'd expect to find in a safarai park and none I had ever eaten before.
Most of them were cooked very well and cooked with cream, but you couldn't say this was a crocodile, wildebeeste or giraffe etc.

08:1431691Years ago, before we went veggie, and before we were married come to that, I took my Old Man to Paris, where I had lived for a while. We had burgers in a funkie little cafe - it was only afterwards that I told him it was horse in the burgers.............I hadn't realised until we started to eat - but horsemeat was not uncommon in the areas I lived in when I was there, so I recognised it. It was one of those little things that test a relationship.....................

08:4331694If you think eating a chevalier burger tests a relationship I was served the following dish a couple of Christmas' ago in my wifes home village.
Dinuguan or Chocolate Meat Dish
Its fresh pigs blood mixed with veg.It tastes as bad as it looks.Upto a couple of hours earlier the main contributor to this feast had been snorting his way through his trough....similar to MPs and their expenses until he was given the heave ho in my honour..
