Quick of the mark there Paul, but 100 new places on the Folkestone Road is that really moving things?
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
Bridge street ? I thought B+Q weren't moving now.

planning applications are not that expensive to make.
there are many more of those than completed projects.

Yes Paul I got those too (being on the Planning Committee, I guess I ought to).
I was also interested in the fact that the Prince of Orange has an application in to turn it into 6 one bed flats.
I understood that someone recently was talking about running it as a new style pub (not sure what that new style was though), but obviously not - more money in flat conversions
There's an application in for an Indian take-away on the corner of Eaton Road and Elmsvale - directly opposite a chinese take-away that opened last year I think it was, although it might have been earlier this year.

Just on the Folkestone Road, No one from all the agencies including the District councils planning committee!!!! has listened to my or many other objections to wots going on around the Folkestone Road.
Whats hapening now is not progress. its tearing a ward apart,
I have with others, campaigned to at the very least sort out the serious drainage problems on the Folk road, still not been done, DDC blames the water companies, water companies blame KCC then KCC says its not there job, and it goes round and round, but no one takes responsibility.
But with more and more buildings going up, and the drainage made for the 1940's it cant cope now, so what happens? the pavements on the ex mildmay hotel side to st johns road become flooded and unable to use even in light rain.
The present buildings on folk rd(ex webbs)remain nearly empty, yet more are going up!!!
where will all that drainage go( suspect even worse flooding)
The heart is being ripped out of the ward, and is changing the face of the ward. no one wants to stop change, but the ward also deserves better than just lining the pockets of greedy developers.
whats most important is locals in priory have had in tough over years what with the issues around
asylum, bootlegging, flooding, and much more, but they have to get through it, and then come out the other side and live on.
Iv always said PRIORY DESERVES BETTER it appears even after all these years those that can change things aint listening.
Dovers planners are so mixed up, whether you agree with fone masts or not, applications came in
lots of opposition, Shepway council took a firm stand and banned them
yet Dover said they couldn't!!!
Just a few views from a pleb

I don't have a problem as such with flats, it's the tiny little boxes and bedsits that even the Police complain about - because they attract the miscreants in our society - they don't have any standards and mostly get their rent paid through the benefit system.
I agree with Keith's descripton of the Folkestone Road and have been assured that the pavement where he mentioned and further along the road, has been looked at and is being scheduled for repair and evening out, so it isn't flooded every time a few drops of rain come down.
I have written to the Chief Executive, The Leader, the Chief Planning Manager/Director, the Portfolio Holder for the Environment and had just one reply - from the Leader.
An increase in tiny flats and bedsits will only increase crime - of all sorts; we are missing out so much because no one is taking a stand on this.
The new high-speed rail to Dover Priory could be a blessing for the area bringing people with money here, big beautiful houses, lots of space and sound structures - but none of them will move into a tiny box and commute to London.
What Forward Planning ??? How can you forward plan, when each application is taken on its own merit and so you will never get to saturation point - until all of these lovely big houses have been converted into tiny boxes.
It's no good saying "I told you so".

I know on this issue we have agreed on most aspects, although we may disagree on parts, but as you know the plannng committee by taking applications as they come in, the overall effect on the priory ward is to totally change it, and it means if you want to stop this happening then you would have to go to every planning committee every month hat a priory application came in.
I did for a few years but gave up in frustration as it was clear the committee were not listening, so it goes on.
I think its all a shame for locals who live in the ward and have to live through it.

there is very little demand for these lovely old houses nowadays.
the problems we are experiencing with the conversions is a nationwide problem.
if one had the dosh to afford the upkeep, heating and lighting on one of these 4/5 bedroomed villas, would that person
want to live in the folkestone road?
we have those very nice loooking dwellings built on the old webb's site, meant appeal to retired people.
i can only ask the same question again.

I told this this forum last year about Morrisons coming to Dovor and that it would go into the old B.Q.site in Charlton green when B.Q. move to their new home, I also told the Dovor Express this was done even before the D.D.C. They did not know till some time after I told you all, but I also had some very negative things said about me from some of you, also some of the new events going on in Dovor this year are ones I worked on some time ago,I also had plans for alot more over the next few years, this letter is not about me wanting any glory for myself but showing what Pride and Passion I held for our town, but like what Frank Bruno done to me years ago you have done today you have K.O.me.The Festival of Dovor was just one of my Ideas to help the Town and there were lots more as well.Well it has all gone now, so thank you very much.
