20:1612032It could be that actually voting them in gives them a mandate....? Conversely, if the Irish government force a new referendum in order to obtain the "right" result it would be a farce...circumstances alter cases.......

20:5812040surely it depends on what the party in government said on the matter prior to being elected.
i believe that our present government promised a referendum on whether we should hoing the accursed currency.
this they appear to be reneging on.
bern

22:4312046The jury is still out, Howard - there is considerable pressure from Europe for a referendum - and considerable pressure from Natives NOT to have a referendum!! Watch this space!!!!!!

17:4212225Bern, there is nothing mini about Brian. You should see him in profile.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

20:5512382No point in this topic or thread. The ECB [NOT CRICKET ONE] won't have us anyway.
We would not meet the entry criteria & are "not fit for membership"
Members should not be beyond 3% of GDP. We are currently at 6% GDP & that is being kind the reality is heading towards 8% & will reach 10%.
Sterling also needs two years of currency stability to qualify.
So folks this thread really is academic.
We are the financial basket case of Europe- even the Italians are laughing.

21:1112386summing up then, our gordon and his measures mean that we will not join the euro in the near future.
what would the point be of joining the ecb anyway?
they cannot even keep a manager and captain.
we are best off out of it.

21:2712388Just to say, I have always said we should keep the pound but over the last year I am saying to myself "Does it matter anymore and a voice in my head tell me NO " pound or Ero,in or out, does it matter again"NO" It is all over now as great Britain only our armed forces are still GREAT.
I remain yours faithfully Vic Matcham
P.s. RED OR Blue does it matter again"NO" Only one thing could help us all now, all working as one that might help. but might be to late for that.

23:3512394i think that roger posted a day or two ago about the future demise of the euro.
i still have many contacts in the eurozone, most of whom abhor it, only the politicians in their countries seem happy with it.
the people will dislike it even more over the next few months when their jobs are put in jeopardy, due to the inability to compete with the uk in exporting goods.
