There will be a meeting at the Clarendon and Westbury Hall on Thursday 16th May 7pm to 8pm to discuss the remaining bit of budget from the last clean up we did of the Clarendon Alleyways. The agenda is basically when shall we hold another clean up, where shall we have the after party and is there anyone willing to take on the Priory Forum duties?
Roger Walkden has been the chairman since the departure of the previous chairman, I am the secretary, Steve McHugh is the treasurer and my husband Mike is what is left of the committee. Various life stuff has meant that we haven't been able to devote any meaningful time to the Priory Forum and now Jean is ill Roger wants to step back. He says he's happy to help in a non-member capacity but wants to hand over the chair to someone who has the time and energy to really make a go of it. Me and Mike are going to be moving to another part of Dover soonish and we feel we would like to hand our roles to people now and get them settled before we do move. Una Mills is happy to help the new Forum with projects etc so I think the newbies will be in safe hands. It will be a shame if there are no volunteers and the Forum closes.
Please feel free to share with anyone who may be interested.

Some time ago Shiela Amos made contact with yourselves in an effort to amalgamate or work with
clarendon and westbury/priory forum this was declined.
Once again I put this to.
As a founding member of the Priory forum i would hate to see it go

As an outsider not sure I have a right to comment, but here goes...
As you all know I am chair/secretary of London Road Community Forum & chair of the Dover Big Local Interim Partnership.
It makes huge amounts of sense to consolidate/amalgamate local community forums where membership is dwindling, or where their patches crossover or are very close to each other. We most certainly must start working together much more, if for no other reason to make the most of the opportunity Big Local offers Dovorians.
As for my own patch; whilst LRCF has been pretty successful over the years it is the same hard core of people who get involved and run it, year in, year out; many are also involved in many of the other volunteer groups in the town. Right next to our area are 2 community forums that are struggling at the moment, whilst Tower Hamlets looks like it might well get back to its thriving past, St Rads forum is moribund; which is a crying shame given facilities it has available and the need for an active and vibrant group in that area. The latter situation is something we have looked at but recognise that amalgamation in this instance is not the right answer, though greater co-operation and doing things like mentoring people in St Rads to help them take over and revitalise their community forum, most certainly is.

Keith, you are right that Sheila sent an email to Roger suggesting that the two groups recombine as one. We had a discussion and decided that for the moment we didn't want to. The main crux of the arguement was the politics involved. Now circumstances are different I shall certainly be suggesting to the new Priory Forum members that they do join forces with you but that will be their choice. Olive branches are not needed because as far as I am concerned there was never a battle.

Well why are you holding out an olive branch then? I wasn't part of the original Priory Forum. I only joined for a project that never happened due to various reasons. So I can only go by what I was told by various people about the politics so I can't really comment. I will be sure to advise the new members to join you and Shiela, Keith, so let's leave the past where it is and move forwards.

You've lost me. Roger is the chairman and his desicion is final for whatever reasons. I don't like the veiled intimation that it is my fault and twist a perfectly reasonable comment to your own ends. And as for chinese whispers I've only got to read the comments left by you and others on this forum to make up my own mind. I don't believe things just because someone tells me. I am a grown up after all.

Jen
I speak as an individual, and whatever way the priory forum moves forward I wish you all well.
My small point was that had you spoken to me direct you would have probably found different to what others may have told you.
But hey ho
good luck to you all in the future

indeed speaking face to face is still the best albeit old fashioned of clarifying things, otherwise the dreaded chinese whispers take over.

So shall I reserve you a seat on Thursday then Keith? Then you can come and pitch your views to the community!
