19:3427234you are right about debate on the nhs roger.
it should be debated openly in our country, not used as an attention grabbing thing by someone trying to get known in the states.
mr cameron is dead right to call the views "eccentric" and today has pledged to improve and expand the nhs further.
on the face of it the cuts that are on their way will not affect the funding of our health service.

22:1327240I see that another Tory MEP has waded in and rubbished OUR NHS. Another eccentric maybe or are the nasties making their play? I did post awhile ago saying that they might try to get rid of DC like they did IDS, we'll see eh. If Cameron doesnt act against them he'll been seen as weak.

I have been saying for some time the nasty side of the Tory party are still out there, and D.C I'm sure is aware what has happened to Tory leaders before him.
There nowt wrong with reasonable debate on the N.H.S but not as Hannan has done he rubbished it.
The NHS has probs but its not rubbish!!!
So who will win
D Cameron or the right wing of the Tory party?

22:2627243Barry - of course we want honest politicians, what we also want are ones with enough common sense not to wash the UKs dirty linen in a foreign country.
Roger there is nothing wrong with honest debate about the NHS
Of course the NHS has problems,
yes it needs reform,
yes there are things we can and should learn from other health care systems around the world (France, Belgium, Germany, Australia, NZ for example)
Is there anything we should learn from the US healthcare industry, yes there is, firstly it does not work for 45m of their citizens who are without insurance, the GP system in the US does not work if you can ever get to see one rather than their nurse practitioner, Medicare for pensioners is under funded and therefore again lets down those on minimum incomes, the level of inefficiency makes the NHS look like a paragon, the profiteering by healthcare providers is also deeply worrying, particularly given it is these self same companies that both major parties want to outsource our healthcare to.
Perhaps we will have to review the concept of "free at the point of need" but it should not be given up lightly and certainly not for tawdry political gain.
Perhaps we have to consider charging for GP appointments or maybe for missed appointments.
There is lots we could and should consider, but we must do so in a reasoned way.

22:2727244interesting stuff, the blues need boy dave as a front man to help get them elected, the rank and file are not sure about him.
he has tried to put the monied county set in their place, how long will they put up with it for?
dc has tried to out the money grabbing mp's, but has only been partially succesful, one, only yesterday, got reselected by her local party.
seems like he has no real control, the comments of the 2 meps about our health service seem to prove it.

Yep, you will recall I and others said in time D Cameron will get found out, now its going to be about;
1; Does he continue to take his people on, but risk leadership challenges?
2; Does he shut up, hope no one notices and hope to get elected?
3; Will the tory party right wing get rid of him before he can make any of the
above decisions?

18:0427297dear dave will survive until after the next election, once in power he will do as he is told.
that is assuming he does get a decent majority, any more gaffes from his monkeys will bring back the lingering doubts of the electorate.

I don't think the right of the tory partywill let D. C survive unless he moves to the right, but he cant afford to if he wants to get elected.
He looks a weak man now and people already starting to distrust where he and his party realy are heading

Over here I had to pay £15 for a Doctors appointment.I also had to pay for my prescription and recently I wanted a represcription and had to pay for that as well needless to say people don't miss appointments nor do they request medication they no longer require.
Hannan is entitled to his views I only hope that when he falls ill or is involved in an accident that requires an ambulance that either 1, he rings for a private ambulance or 2. or the NHS ambulance crew have long memories and are able to recall his comments.

The fees I quoted that apply in Jersey are fact and maybe should be introduced in the UK so as to deter timewasters.
I love the NHS warts and all and feel confident that when the time comes as surely as it does for all of us that I befall an accident or an illness that the Nhs will be there to treat me regardless of my bank balance, occupation or medicare.

16:0227431Ross, I have no time to indulge today in exchanges that are as absurdly silly as we see, on this page, from Sid, Keith and howard.

16:2427432Barry. I am keeping out of this but what makes you think what Sid, Keith, and Howard,is saying is silly and what you are saying is not,I read what you say and do not agree with it but to call some one names because they do not see things the same way as you do is not fair or right.

18:5227445One reason why I seldom post on this forum anymore is that should you have a different opinion to some, you are either a Labour support or accused of being absurd. Absurd or not we are all entitled to an opinion, challenge the opinion by all means but in a courteous manner.
I can only add that many people are deterred from posting on this forum for the reasons I have tried to outline and prefer instead to post on the other forum.
