Listening to Warnett on Radio Kent this morning, it was stated on there that ten thousand people have joined the Labour party since the Lib Dems joined with the Conservatives, the inference was that it was mainly disillusioned Liberals.

Wow! thats quite an influx of personnel for Labour. Good to hear. Once the new Labour regime is up and running, presumably under the guiding hand of fresh new blood in the shape of fresh faced David Milliband, they might see a revival in fortunes.
As they were saying though on Question Time last night...Labour need new impetus , a new flag to attach themselves to, as all there old reasons for existing are gone. Socialism, left wing fever, strong unions and what have you....all gone.A continuance of NEW Labour is the thing with a new progressive vision.
Interesting to see that the old guard like Alan Johnson, Jack Straw, are recognising this and standing aside in the leadership contest.

I am looking forward to the cutting off of Labour's Trade Union financial lifeline with the imposition of a £50,000 maximum individual donations (per person, per business or per Union, being allowed to all political Parties.
Already nearly bankrupt that should help finish them off as a major party, supplanted by the LibDems as the main opposition to the Conservatives in due course.
There is a parallel back in the 20's when Baldwin helped Labour supplant the Liberals with a coalition deal with Labour. It was what made Labour 'electable' in the first place.
A surge from some LD supporters could have been expected but I dont think it offers Labour anything long-term.
Consider this:
Every term of Labour Government has ended in a financial crisis with the longest ever period ending in the biggest bust.
Every term of Labour Government has ended with unemployment higher than when it started.
The problem with Labour is that when they get into office they behave like kiddies let loose in a sweet shop with our money being the sweets.
They deserve oblivion and nothing more. Useless and incompetent they are past their sell by date.

nice try barry, i think you will find that the first post says rather a lot.
it is now the yellows that will lose grass roots support.
don't forget that many of their flock are people that left the reds and formed the sdp, due to the reds being taken over by the extreme left.
watch them all come back now, leaving the reds more powerful than before.

I heard that the only good proposal the Libdems made in election campaign, to scrap the 50 billion pound nuclear missile project called "Trident", has been sacrificed as a condition to be in government with the Tories.
What's the point! It was their only good proposal!
I just don't know what we want with a batch of new nuclear missiles. This is sheer nonsense!

I see Alexander - you want the UK to be defenceless against the nuclear capability being developed by Iran and North Korea. The LibDems did not know what they would replace it with....
Also without the nukes the UK would lose its place as a permanent member of the UN Security Council (the LibDems want us to give that up anyway in favour of the EU.... not agreed with DC!)

I have no idea what the answer is, but continueing this build up of more and more nuclear weapons is surely the wrong way.
We did have a time where lots of the weapons were destroyed, butm understanding is the UK has a number of weapons facing this country, and one button press and we are all gone.
I don't believe having these weapons makes any diffrence to the likes of IRAN or North Korea they have silly people and would blow us uo, with or without or these weapons we have.

Barry, now you are bringing up the subject of the e.u., although paulB put an end to that discussion. I'll make it short, and ask you what Sid meant by stating that the e.u. means 'peace to Europe and no more wars'? it was these statements from Sid that got me worked up and then in trouble, you know!
I won't harp on, only will just state, I don't want to see a nuclear missile hit any city or village. No, the e.u. is very much the opposite of peace, i don't believe in nuclear missiles as 'peace brokers'. I believe in national Churches for this, Barry!
Alas, no more! I won't harp on here.

Andy, you know full well I am, but I won't get drawn into another long statement.
For all further information on e.u. misery, you, and any Forum member, may go onto Internet and look up unemployment in each e.u. state, and add the figures up.
Look up arms spending in each e.u. state, and add the figures up.
Look up banktuptcies of firms in each e.u. state, and add the figures.
Look up home-evictions, suicides... in each e.u. state and add the figures.
Please do it yourselves, and don't draw me into this argument any more for a while, it is becoming boring for the Forum, and you may present the results under your own thread. I'll read in from round the corner, I might put in an exclamation!
Thanks!

I was only pulling your leg, Alexander......for what it's worth, I voted UKIP myself at the election; I did a little work for Vic Matcham to help him along with his UKIP campaign. Vic's a personal friend, and I would do it all again tomorrow. I doubt it will be tomorrow, but we might not have long to wait. "A week's a long time in politics" as the late Harold Wilson so correctly observed.
True friends stab you in the front.

Well, Andy, that explains a lot! Hope to see you one day soon then! I have made an application to join UKIP the other day, have got a reply from Devon, expect to be contacting Vic soon!

is devon still in the united kingdom.
i find it difficult keep up with things.
LibDems gained millions of votes in the GE, and now lose a few thousand. Can't imagine Cleggy even thinking about it.

What surprised me about last nights Question Time was the amount of flack that Simon Hughes and Hessletine got from members of the audience...and they have only been in power for 3 days.It doesn't bode well.

I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
How can the public complain? We caused this problem in the first place! Some people just like to have a go or moan, me included!
