23:1812826Just noted on the BBC wbsite (after checking out the sad news on Pfizers) that my boyhood hero from Danger man and The Prisoner has passed on.
A true 'Bond' if ever there was...
Check this pic - apologies to my hero...
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

23:3212829saw that earlier, if i remember correctly, he would never carry a gun in any of his films.
still managed to sort everyone when he was danger man though.
i remember him mostly in a film from an alistair maclean adventure.
he played opposite robert morley, great casting.

23:3412831As a remake of The Prisoner' has recently been announced i hope they will dedicate it to his memory. A sad loss.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

02:1012842Oh no!
This is awful news and I feel genuinely upset.
Farewell Patrick. So sad to say goodbye to such an actor who has had so much impact on my life. As an impressionable teenager The Prisoner influenced me greatly and the way I look at the world. McGoohan was a genuine genius, a true controversial enigma much like his timeless brainchild of a series. A very sad loss indeed.
Sadly forty years after the prophetic Prisoner, we are all truly pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, de-briefed and numbered.
Be seeing you, Number Six.

09:1912847Its sad news alright..he gave us a lot of terrific entertainment over the years. As a young guy I was a keen Danger Man fan. The opening credits with the snazzy little sportscar were a bit of an attraction too. It looked like an early Morgan or perhaps a Lotus. Then came The Prisoner which was certainly revolutionary in terms of broadcasting at the time.
"I am not a number I am a free man" was on everyones lips.
After that he returned to the US. (He was born there but grew up in Ireland) and went striaght into the semi lead in hollywood movie
"Ice Station Zebra" as I remember, and Im writing from memory only. I dont think the Americans took to him as a leading man as he was something of an eccentric performer but he found lots of work as a nastyish villain over the years.
Cant beleive he was 80. Where do the years go.

09:4412853I went to Portmeirion a couple of years ago, it being my duty as I was such a fan of The Prisoner. The weather was awful but here's a short vid I knocked up hopefully showing what The Village looks like now:

12:1212858I remember meeting Patrick on the Caterham 7 stand at a few of the Motor Shows, a true gentleman. I loved the music for Dangerman and The Prisoner and would come rushing downstairs to watch it.
Another sad loss - RIP Patrick.

13:1112864Phil - didn't realise, you did Portmeirion about the same time as us in 2006 and I have never know so much rain as we got at our friends' wedding !!
Will have to sort out the Prisoner box-set soon as I keep meaning to.
I first remember him in Dr Syn aka the Scarecrow, due to the local/smuggler connections that had me fascinated at the time.
Been nice knowing you :)

When I was in the army years ago i was at shorecliffe Bks, well one night I went down to Sandgate for a drink I went into the Ship inn and it had two bars I went into the small one only one person siting in there and it was Mr P Mcgoohan (yes it was him) anyway we got talking and he was telling he like coming down to Sandgate and the sea and thgat he had a flat along the front which he came to at times, we talked on but not for long and off he went, never did see him again only on the T.V.

14:2913038Thanks Paul for fixing the pic and Roger for the compliment. Wish I had met the guy like Vic did.
Paul - I keep up my profile on StarNow just in case the Beeb are looking for a stand-in, but not sure if I could escape the Beige 'Rover' unless they lend me a Mini-Moke for the week.
Be seeing you... (as they used to say).

14:3513040You were actually right about the car Paul - it was a lotus 7 - Caterham took over the production later in 1973 when Colin Chapman got bored with basic cars and put out the elans. I built a couple of those in my early days. Super kit but very very maintenance hungry.
Watching last weeks episode - he was a cowboy and shot everyone in sight - I was reminded of the early episode where he went into a pub and saw a message in the bottom of the glass saying - you've been poisoned! he smartly then drank every spirit in the bar until he was sick! I have tried many times to emulate this without success!!!
