I don't know if Sue would have seen the invite list and am not going to grumble at her.

I'm sure sue would have seen the list, and past chairpeople have invited
(given so many able to invite) people along

Surely the most simple and inexpensive way of promoting Dover would be the Brochure (as I have suggested before on previous posts at other times). But there is a total lack of willingness on the part of those who make decisions. I can only suppose that they sit complacently in their ivory towers oblivious of what is needed.
Probably too busy lifting the G & T's and hawhawing to bother. We have all been saying for as many years as I have been a part of the forum what needs to be done but here we are in exactly the same position.
If only someone would get off their backside - organise absent landlords in the town centre (that's a joke) and get the town clean and sparkling. Then we could think about a tourist bus. We have over 3000 years of history. at least 2000 of which are clearly visible.

Maybe on-board menu posters and cards could be sponsored?
The 'egg & chips' etc. with scenes of Dover/Kent.
Les 'oeuf et pommes frites' likewise.
You may think that on-board is too late, but...visitors usually come back through Kent/Dover. N'est pas?
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.
It would take flair and imagination, Diana - not apparent in any abundance in our local reps, sadly. I am happy to be proven wrong.

it is well set out and eye catching, just to be picky i notice that it doesn't say when attractions are open - e.g. transport museum, painted house, timeball tower, white mill heritage centre.
a glaring ommission for me is that there is not a photo of the shakespeare cliff which is probably the most striking feature of east kent.

Shakespeare Cliff is on the front cover !!
I don't think it's possible for a generic brochure like this to contain all that sort of detailed information and is more of a 'taster' of what is available, it probably has to go to design a few months ago and a lot of attraction might not decide their times/events until nearer the spring.
Been nice knowing you :)

the picture of the cliff does not do justice to its dramatic effect.
i think these two are better examples.

I think the brochure is excellent, lots of info and modern design.
Howard, anyone walking the path to the cliff in your top photo would now be likely to get run over by lorry!

that was about a hundred years old ray, this was taken on a foggy day with a simple pocket camera, a professional with all the right equipment would get a great shot for the cover of a brocchure.

Yes it is attractive and quite informal; seems to be comprehensive in its inclusion of where to go, what to see and where to stay.

Is that right Paul...well good person to choose but they should have paid you.
The brochure does look great there. I was at the Tourist Campaign launch today in Sandwich and will get an item about it on the frontpage soon as possible...bit pushed to the limit timewise at the moment but bear with us.
Great pictures there Howard all round.

Diana, Dover Museum has got items of pottery found on Eastern Heights dating back 3,850 years. That's long before Greek civilisation. Dover is possibly the oldest port in the world.
Byblos might dispute that

I doubt it, Sarah; Byblos in Phonecia hasn't got any Bronze Age boats. Ours is the oldest known ship that crossed the seas.
Byblos has a history as a port that goes back to approx 3000 BC , that would be a little difficult to achieve without a boat or two :-)
