08:1913158Oh dear!! some members are not contributing. As we are a small forum nowadays we need all members to put their shoulders to the wheel, their noses to the grindstones, and to man the pumps etc etc ( enough cliches there i think!
) We did make it clear to everyone at the beginning as they joined, that it was for contributors only, as at this size to keep the thing tickety booing along at a fair pace contributions were/are necessary.
So sleeping members get posting. Your contributions are welcome, its your posting that keeps us going. Some members are playing out of their skins and making great contributions, help them out.

20:2913252do you know how many people look in that are not members paul?
i guess that it would be a vast number,we live in a voyeuristic society.
too many of us just watch things and do not join in.

21:3913255Not fair trying to wake people up in January. This is the month for hibernating.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

21:4613257You could be right Howard, but given the plethora of reality shows you would have thought there might be some out there that want to contribute

you may have proved my point.
too many people just watch others behaving or misbehaving, then make judgements.
reality shows are an example.
it is much easier than making a statement, then seeing someone else disagree with it.

i must admit that i rather liked "voyeuristic" myself.
rest assured i shall seize any opportunity to use it in future.
might even slip it into conversation at one of PB' and collettes's candle light suppers.

23:1714205i notice that a few of the regulars have gone missing, or post once in a blue moon
alec sheldon was the first to spring to mind, sheila amos used to give her views here and jan tranter has disappeared over the horizon since the festive season.
we see people in the local press that have strong articulate views, why do they not join in?
lorraine scenicle, reg hansell, that bloke from the car lobby that slags off nigel and more

08:5614216Yes you are quite right there Howard. We have lost one or two since the festive season...! and some members work patterns have changed and others have computer problems and so on but of course it hits the content.
It would certainly be good to have Lorraine Sencicle or Reg Hansell. I dont know Lorraine though at all, and dont know how to contact her but Im sure she could be interested. Reg did post a few times on the Open Page during the Hospital campaign...but yes would be good to have them contributing regularly.
I am having doubts now about the POLITICS section and would be interested to hear what others think. It started off well but.. with now with only a regular few contributing a certain level of predictability kicks in. I wonder if it would be better to just merge the two sections..politics and letters into one rolling ball. Would be interested to hear what people think on that one.
Also I would call for a limited use of the one liner. Although Brian is great fun he uses a tad too many for example. One liners very rarely give other members anything to respond to, other than by another one liner..and thread full of one liners can kill the thing. I like a good one liner like the best of them but lets limit there use a bit.
As Roger often says about things around Dover...use it or lose it. This Forum is exactly like that. Use it or lose it. There is nothing so bad as a dead forum, you see them around, if this one was to stagnate I would close it. I did come back from the dead to do this current one as people asked me. Its smaller than the old days but still runs well, but we all have to work it.

09:1314220one liners paul somtimes works better than a long labourus post that post on here.i prefer short and straight to point posts that stimulate the conversasion.

17:4714262Thats the point though..do they stimulate the conversation?
My point is this...if you put up a one liner with 5 words in it..you may be responding to the post that went before, but your post of 4 or 5 words wont leave much for the guy coming after you to respond to.
Would also be interested to hear about the other point or two I made there if anyone has an opinion.
