i whole heartedly agree about the politics section, the problem is that if itcame into the mainstream of posts, more people would leave, at present people turned off by party politics know what to avoid.
trying to think of that chap that gets involved in various issues in the local press, the last i saw he was trying to save
the red jellybone box close by victoria mansions.
i know that he lives somewhere in castle ward and always makes an articulate argument for what he is into.

19:2314268Please don't mix the Politics section with the mainstream, that would be an irritant. It is a specalised area, and deserves it's own section. Popping into Politics once in a blue moon is fine but one doesn't always want to read it all - positions are so entrenched it becomes, if one doesn't mind me saying, all somewhat predictable. Many of us do care about politics but just because we rarely post there doesn't mean we are disinterested or do not understand the issues, it's more often the case one logs on for lighter stuff after a day at work. One does not always want to get involved in a heavy political discourse, and ultimately one that will go no-where. Some people enjoy online arguing and point-scoring, and fair play to them, but it doesn't float all of our boats.
I don't have any problem with one liners if they are genuinely funny, witty and used sparingly. However.

08:2014305I think the politics section should be kept and kept as a separate section - as it is now.
There are always several postings per day on it, but it is predictable (as Phil says), and every one knows who is for or against a particular argument or political viewpoint.
All it really does in entrench people's political viewpoint, never convert them.

09:2614314I agree with Phil and (believe it or not) - Vic.
The politics postings seem to be just point scoring, Barry will post, Keith disagrees with everything that isn't labour, then the sarcasm creeps in and it gets personal.
I don't bother looking at it anymore, I prefer the nice friendly posts on the letters pages. Personally I wouldn't read the forum so much if it was about politics.
With regard to the one liners, I'm with PaulB on that one, I find most one liners a waste of space, just one persons comment and not worth reading. On another forum that I moderate we have banned them unless they are really relevant, such as important information.
There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

09:3614317I don't even look at the Politics section.
If anyone wants to raise anything with me they can do it personally as the rest of the community does - all treated the same.
Anway, if it is local I have most of the facts here no doubt but how many want to know the full story.

11:3514331I enjoy reading the Politics section, keeps me abreast of the current political climate and you know what they say knowledge is power.
I like it being seperate to everything else.

19:5714354This being the only forum I have been involved in, I can't compare, but I can offer comment, I think in the main it is fairly balanced, I think keeping politics from letters works for me, I am very interested in the political side and learning much from it, but I like to swap to letters, not that they are less important just more interesting, in my opinion that is, I have noticed that there are far more views than there are replies, which prompted this thread I suppose, maybe encourage at least one reply per ten views. One liner's are good for bringing in a bit of humour, always a good thing, I think, although some are cryptic and leave me a bit baffled, but that's just me I think, bit thick.
I am not an expert on forums, but I think you are doing great job PaulB I enjoy it anyway.

08:5914377Thanks for that GaryC , your contributions are very welcome too. We could do with another 6 or 7 good contributors but they dont grow on trees. I think too that maybe because this site is fairly widely read people might be a bit nervous about the committment. Ive had one or two say this to me...pity though because once you are up and running you soon forget about any inhibitions.

11:1314395You have hit the nail on the head there PaulB, as a newby, some threads can get quite heated and personal, I got involved in a couple myself, and it was a bit daunting at first, no offence, but we are not all as confident as some of your main forumites and need bit of encouraging, I can only say to those who are sitting on the fence at the moment, start making a few replies and start a new thread of your own, you will soon feel much more part of the forum family, even if you don't agree with some of them, no, especially if you don't agree with some of them. Give it a go, nothing to lose.
