You have a short memory Vic, I used to put on a fairly big annual event in Dover with the help of the DCAL crew and other volunteers. Ergo, I understand a bit about staging events, even when bogus celebs turn up!
As for the chess tournament in Canterbury, I think with all due respect, you may be overstating it's impact on an already thriving local economy. Losing that event probably won't even cause a ripple to Canterbury, but gaining it might make a significant impact here.
But, at the end of the day, bright ideas are useless unless the financials are fully understood, hence my question. If it can be proven, near as damn it, that Dover will see a decent contribution to its economy by hosting such an event, then we need to mobilise and grab the opportunity before someone else does.
