21:2577545Howard, if she wins the lottery tonight, I`m sure you`ll be one of her beneficiaries, easily outstripping family members with the your kind comment. She`s dates from 1947.

09:2877636My brother (Mike Webb) would be a pupil from the early fifties, and so would our Deputy Mayor. There are a lot of people who once went to St Martins about, which is rather nice.
The school has had quite a bit of refurbishment, but not visible from Markland Road. When our Susannah went in recently, for the WWI classroom sessions, she found the school have a lovely atmosphere, and a sense of peace about it.
No, I'm not Margareuta, Diana. But I remember the toilets too.
The boys were always very naughty, and tried to steal our skipping ropes - they'd grab one end and try to tug the rope into the boys' toilets, with all of us girls hanging on the other end, trying to save it.
I remember a little friend from back then - I think he was at the school only a couple of terms. I knew him just as Toody. Does anyone else remember him? I often wonder what becamed of him.

09:5877645Are there any times, (with children not there of course), that former pupils may be permitted to wander round?

The head teacher is very approachable, and the caretaker lives in my road, and the handy man in tower hamlets
I'm sure if you phoned the school they would accomodate you

12:5377683I have been trying to think of names. I remember John Brockman, Lorna Manning, Marguerita Smithers, Sandra Doble, Diane Fletcher, and I think I do remember Susan Pritchard. There was also a very lovely sweet girl called Wendy and I just cannot think of her second name. For some reason I do not remember my time at St Martin's being particularly happy. I think I was a loner.

14:3677704There was a Barry West my sister knew. At my age though, I remember twins called Jean and Maureen Benstead, Julian Johnson, Richard Stanton, Christopher Guthrie, not sure if their names are spelt right of course.

16:0377706Now what would be super, I think, is if St Martins could be opened for the next Heritage Open Day in September 2011.
There's heaps there to see, including the remaining air raid shelter, and it's a lovely school with a lot of history (yes, it is also connected with Walter Tull .....
) I should imagine a lot of former pupils would welcome the change to have a tour round again, and they are fortunate to have quite a bit of historical material pertaining. Oh, and there's even the ghost story - one can see tghe very window ....
If enough old pupils wanted to get together to organise this and prepare a tour, I'm sure the school would be very interested in discussing this idea.
Howard, I think I'll just say that Colin annd I may not have been at the school at the same time ...

17:1477710Cor blimey Vic, anyone from that far back must have a serious case of dementia by now!!
Diane - If you meant Sandra Dole she married Michael Keeler (as mentioned in #15), he died early in life sadly. Sandra still lives in the Elms Vale area.

11:4177798I'm just trying to think if I knew a Gillian Sansum, only the name seems familiar (not because of Keith!) and I used to go to youth club with a Vicky Pritchard. But if the Mike Webb is our present Town Clerk I do not remember him being at St Martins, because he is only a year younger than me and I knew him also at youth club.

15:2477828Although strictly speaking this is not a St Martins School photo, but is the St Martins parish Coronation Party in 1953 in the church hall in Church Road. Lots of faces, Bob is on there. Anyone recognise anybody?
