Two more visitors to the cruise terminal today. The Costa Mediterranea at the top and the beautiful little Seabourne Pride.

There's always a little truth behind every "Just kidding", a little emotion behind every "I don't care" and a little pain behind every "I'm ok".

Lovely shots there Jacqui and Paul, that Costa Mediterranea is a big one...but just arriving at this very minute is a whopper, and I dont think its been here before. If I had noticed it 20 mins ago I would have seen it coming into the harbour and been able to get a decent shot, but its over by the pier now being helped in by the two tugs.
Its the MSC Orchestra...I think thats a new one on me...but its big, very big. Anyone want to pop along and see a hugely fab cruise liner then now's yer chance.
The MSC cruise line, Italian as I remember, are great supporters of Dover, long may it continue.

Whilst I was in town today and I met a chap who was visiting his granddaughter who is a dancer on the MSC Orchestra, she treated him and his good lady wife with a ships visit, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He told me that the last time he was in Dover he sailed to Ostend some time in the distant past, would that have been on the seacat?

It's great to have these cruise-ships coming into Dover, whether as a turn-around, or as a Port-of-call, but we (Dover and the businesses) don't benefit as much as we could, due mainly I believe because the Cruise-Welcome-Group are told quite emphatically NOT to be proactive with the passengers who are coming into Town.
Those going on a day-excursion will be off earlier and walking in a determined way, to get on their coach, but those ambling through to get on a bus to bring them into Town, should be warmly welcomed to Dover and proactively given leaflets and information on what to see and do here, as well as the qualioty shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants, without them having to ask for it.
There are leaflets I understand, but they are only given out if people ask for them - being reactive is nowhere near as productive and successful as being proactive.

Yes Scotchie it looks great on Dover Seafront this morning, the sun is shining brightly, the beach is a dazzling golden colour and there are 3 cruise liners in. I have just checked through binoculars to make sure Ive got it right
1. The Costa Marina
2. The fab Norwegian Jewel
3. The Black Watch
the terminals are in fact overloaded but Im sure theyre coping well.
In theory the town should be humming with visitors because these ships will have disgorged a huge amount of passengers.
In answer to Barry, I went to Ostend in 1963 and as I recall it was on a regular ferry service.
P.S. Mr Michael Steen MP thinks we are all jealous of his huge house that looks like Balmoral. Nah! I would far rather live where I do - not only the cruise ships but the every changing sea. This year we've even got a blackbird seranading us regularly. I am SO lucky!!!!!!!!!!

The magnificent Norwegian Jewel leaving Dover just a few minutes ago. Brought to you faster than Sky News and the BBC...I know,I know, they must curse and spit and say stuff like...
"if only we had Doverforums budget!!"
and here's another one...
They're not reproducing terribly sharp although the originals are sharp... but anyway you get the drift. Its probably because they have to squash down. Thats a technical term there..squash down!
