The other big story hitting the news is N KOREA
It's becoming a case of who's got the biggest missles which is a real worry.
With N Korea being so unstable isn't it interesting the way all the big countries have been careful not to upset them.
I reaLise its a very delicate situation, but it is worrying for the future.
Im not a believer in CND but maybe they have a case?
So what is going to happen if N Korea continue to ignore everyone and go on testing??
WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK??????????

Well so far this week they have tested a nuclear bomb and added to that have fired three missiles by way of a test. It is also designed to strike the fear of God into their neighbours, which of course it's acheiving.
With regard to CND Keef...I think that would be the wrong direction to go. never has CND been more irrelevant. In an era when you had relatively responsible countries in an arms race, you could have at least have envisaged some chance of a negotiated reduction in weapons, or even total disarmament , but not anymore.
These rogue states are not negotiate-able with. If we disarmed here and places like Iran and N Korea had global weapons of mass destruction, I wouldnt give a prayer for our survival. The only thing that keeps them in check is that we can annihilate them by return mail.
CND for those who dont know is that old group from those heady but scary 1960's ...we were on the brink of total destruction a number of times. In this environment CND used to demonstrate a lot for total nuclear disarmament and you could see their point...perhaps. They were big once upon a time, but their influence has wained.

they have now fired 6 times according to todays news
So tell me, how do we stop them?
Sending them a polite letter signed by the UN and/or other countries won't work
its scary

Unless someone gets in there first with a preemptive strike. That threat worked with the old Soviet Union. Even our small "big stick" has got to be bigger than N. Korea's.

Don't normally advocate any kind of aggression against other countries. But I have to say that North Korea almost demands it.
Some kind of pre-emptive strike must be under serious consideration right now - just what ARE these guys up to?

I too wuld not adverse to a pre-emptive strike. We must be prepared for a reaction against South Korea though.

I really can't see what N. Korea hopes to gain by threatening S. Korea other than a good tongue-lashing from the UN in the first instance. The backlash from any confrontation could be horrific.

it is all rather parochial.

who would attack us though if north korea attacks its neighbour?

It would destabilise the whole region and have severe economic consequences. Additionally it could create a knock on effect that couyld engulf the whole world.
Think back and remember your history. Think about what effect the assasination of an Austrian Arch Duke in Sarajavo had in 1914. Does that not demonstrate how, what might seem a minor and localised matter, can have massive consequences.

Yes Howard and think of the economic impact that that would create

howard. Dont joke about something like this. Apart from the fact that there are many lives at stake. I am of course assuming you are joking and that you really understand the economic consequences for the UK economy of a 'blow up' in that part of the world.
Ignoring the substantial UK investment in that part of the world, the UK Government wants to sell a lot of gilts over the next few years to cover its massive borrowing splurge. S. Korea and China in particular will be important in this.
Balance of payments be damned, there are much more significant problems from this.
With you again BarryW.
