About time DDC allowed the fair to come on carnival week, as they do for Deal. Now wait for the ridiculous answers as to why not.

Brian, I like taking pictures of the castle. It wasn`t till I got home and downloaded the pictures, that I noticed the fair was there. PaulB likes taking pictures of the breakwater, which always seem to catch a ship passing by.

I agree I could never work out why the fun fairs arrival didn't coincide with the Carnival. Reasons given to me were...the Fair was booked elsewhere and policing.
Marek
I think therefore I am (not a Tory supporter)
In the old days, when things were good and the summers were always hot, the fun fair always did coincide with the carnival. This year's fair looks interesting, with more rides than I have seen for some time (but I don't get out much it's true!).
DDC Events Committee actively prevent the fair from being in town in the week leading up to carnival. Both companies who bring the fairs to Dover are very happy to come in the week leading up to carnival and they too don't understand why Dover is the exception.
One reason given by DDC EC is they like to spread the events out over the summer, but if that were true there wouldn't be a fair at Deal or Aylesham in carnival week. Deal carnival attracts huge crowds, the seafront is a hive of activity until late at night with bars and take-aways etc., doing a roaring trade; that is denied to Dover by the DDC EC.
Oddly enough, when it comes to Regatta week, having a fair in town isn't an issue. Double standards methinks.

keith
there is one day where the prices are only £1 a ride, dodgems £.1.50.
sid
if that is true about ddc discouraging two events at the same time, how does that account for the posters they have up in town advertising the western heights weekend with the rolls weekend.?
Howard, go figure mate. They are a law unto themselves. What is worse, they are an inconsistent law. I guess it comes down to whether they want something, in which case all rules go out of the window,

in case any of our members still have any money and energy left tomorrow after the western heights and sea front events, the fair is doing a special deal of a quid a ride(30 bob on the dodgems).
will still leave a it of time to buy something in our new market.
Colin, your photos are always a joy, thank you. I look forward to seeing them when I log on.

Sid not true about the fair at the Regatta, the fair is brought in by the Regatta, and I and Gill Gough and Fabric Fairys mrs Michelle used to negotiate what where and who, then asked for the road closures. One year we nearly had 2 fairs!
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
