Remember the days of ferries in the Wellington Dock? I don`t think the modern one`s would somehow fit. I took this photo back in 1988 of the Earl Harold. Unfortunatly, I never did much photography at that time to record more of Dover. I`ve just got myself a new scanner and I`m now able to pick out just a few of my old 6x4 pics. Is all this to be filled in with concrete as well if the new plans come to frutition?

Thanks Paul, and I`d only got that camera the year before in 1987, and it lasted me till 3 years ago when I bought my first digital. I took thousand`s of pics with it, many of the kids growing up, and holidays etc, but regrettably, not very many of Dover.

The same year, but taken from the Prince of Wales pier. I can`t spot the name. Note the British Rail logo on the funnel.

Another fine picture there Kath, and yet another one I`ve never seen before. Maybe Paul Scotchie or someone on here could do one from the same position if possible? I`m not sure my camera would get the whole area.

I am sure I have a similar view to this from the Heights, but this sort of view is usually from the Belle Vue tearooms or similar

The Wellington dock in the background here, together with a ferry berthed, sometime in the 1950s. A `C` class steam locomotive in the foreground together with a Ford Popular(?) car. A picture taken by the Rev. AWV Mace, who travelled the length and breadth of the country photographing steam from the 1920s to 1960s. I think this picture was taken not too far from the roundabout along Snargate street, with the turn off roughly opposite towards the present swing bridge and clock tower. Thanks for the book Tony Jayms, and there were two others in it from Dover. PAUL. Nice shot above mate.

Not wishing to create another thread and call it the Granville Dock, I`ve placed it on this one instead. As well as the dock, there`s also much else to see, but I suspect the chance of seeing a telephoto lens in the distant building`s on this July !959 picture are pretty remote. Possibly not even born yet? In the foreground, an ex-SE&CR O1 class locomotive shunt`s the ferry siding.

Thanks for that Stewart. Although I`ve got the original picture here and can enlarge it, the name is still not discernible.

This is the Cambridge Ferry after a close encounter with a french ferry.
Would you like to see the state of the other one?

Thank you for that Stew, I'm glad you remembered the date.
Sorry Colin, I didn't want to bore anyone without a request.
As Stewart said it was the St ELOI. She was also holed below the water line and the damage was emense and this collision put both ships out of action for a few months.
More to come.

Smashing picture`s there Ian. (No pun intended

) A few month`s out of service would be extremely costly to both owner`s I should imagine? Did you take these images yourself? P.S. I find all my picture`s boring Ian, so request or not, I think why should I suffer alone, so I bore you lot on here with them.

Yes my very own shots Colin, Sid now owns the camera.
Heres a few shots of the Wellington dock at 04-00hrs in the morning from the 80s.
The reflections are perfect apart from a small piece of drift wood.
OOOOPs the last one is upside down.
