I think all credit should be given to DCA for their proposal to build new modern toilets that will be open to the public, albeit they may like Pebbles need to levy a small fee to cover the cost of cleaning and maintenance.

public toilets should also be considered to be built in the development of the DTIZ, and the new Western docks development

make them paid ones with full time staff it is the only way to stop it, already a lot of towns do it this they will be clean all the time yes there will be a cost to that from who runs them but some of that will be offset by not having to have a company going in to clean them like they do now,But we need public toilets to stay open.

A member of the public tried to avail herself of the facilities in Connaught Park at 1715 hours today and they were locked up despite a sign outside saying they would be open until 1800 hours.

I think that the standard of cleaning the public toilets is well below standard to what it was. Many years ago in between jobs i took a part time vacancy with Serco who used to have the contract for the cleaning of Dover and district Toilets.Thankfully it was just for a few months and i was in charge of the rural round. The cleaning had to be of a high standard and was regularly checked by either our foreman or Someone from the DDC,tiles had to be polished, copper pipes if any had to be shining, the whole place had to be fresh and clean even though they would soon be trashed again. If the job wasnt done properly we would be sent back to clean again. When in town if i visit the loos they look like theyve just chucked a few deodorant blocks in the trough and gone, they are really that bad,we would have never got away with it.

Yes the toilets used to be sparkling clean now they are simply dirty looking whatever time of day you have the dubious pleasure of entering them.
As Vic said bring back the attendants to keep them clean and druggie free, or at the very least inspect them a lot more than they are now.

When Fountains Ltd (still wrongly shown on DDC website, despite having been taken over years ago) were the cleaners, a supervisor used to check the work. Now the cleaners seem not to be checked at all. The continual filthy state is probably what encourages the druggies behaviour. The midmorning visit by the cleaner to the Gents lasts no longer than 1 minute regardless of the mess.
The summer opening hours sign has reappeared at Stembrook but not at Maison Dieu showing closing time as 2100. Think that's most unlikely.

Sadly I see an East Kent Council as just as distant as KCC, Canterbury will run the show together with Ashford once they sign up. I shudder to think how Thanet will get on, considered almost third world as it is.

Dover Priory public conveniences. Can't recall needing an FLT to powder my nose, but good to know that they are available if required.
