Thanks to the US President, there is already a strong anti-British feeling in the States following the BP incident. I don't mean to underplay the seriousness of the oil leak, but does it really justify a tide of racist anti-British sentiment? And now I see he has compared the event to 9-11. So now BP are terrorists eh? Okay I get it, the comparison is supposed to indicate the American trauma that the disaster has caused. But come on. 9-11? Come on!!
I'm of the opinion that in the wake of this disaster (which I will freely admit is pretty awful) the US has shown its true colours. They seem willing to turn against anyone in any event that hurts them. Even when it's a close friend like the UK was supposed to be and even when it is an accident rather than an act of war or terrorism.
I would never blame the US for coming down hard on BP, but the whole UK? And to compare it to 9-11 is beyond offensive. If he ain't careful us Brits might go over there and commit gross acts of suicide oiling.

Lets not judge America by Obama, its Obama who is showing his true colours.
The man is as big a disaster for the USA as GWB was. At least GWB was pro-Britain.
I am sorry that I have to say this because I originally thought Obama would be able to heal America's wounds, I knew his economic policies were a potential disaster and he was dodgy on Foreign policy but thought that a price worth paying to re-habilitate America in the world after GWB. I was wrong.
I like the Americans and most will not be turned against the UK by Obama but there is a minority that will be swayed by his rhetoric, just as over hear there are minority who get swayed by ill informed anti-Americanism.

You`re right above Rick in criticising Obama with the go compare the twin towers episode, with this oil spill, but regarding the anti-British feeling, I suspect they have their own gutter media/papers giving a completely false view of general public opinion, many who are probably the same as us, and don`t get taken in by it all.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
I've got a decent sized circle of friends in the U.S. and this topic isn't even mentioned let alone discussed. Most of them remember Exxon Valdez and know accidents happen for whatver reason, or no reason. It's how quickly and thoroughly it's put right that matters. In this case they recognise the difficulties of a major problem at depth under water.
They generally aren't happy with Obama who they see becoming Blair MkII, all spin and no substance. I'd go so far as to say Obama is more popular in Africa than America, but even there we see the beginnings of a dawning of reality. Personally, I like the bloke, he isn't an egotistical warmonger, and that's fine by me.

despite the rubbish he is spouting at present i do not think he is a bad president.
to get the health service thing through congress was a wonderful achievement, bringing his country in line with rest of the civilised world.
he will never be particularly fond of our country, his main interests and knowledge relates to africa and the far east.
