This one has been going around the internet like wildfire.
A Minister in Brown's Government placed a bet in 2007, when Brown had his first bounce just before he chickened out of an election, that Brown would lose his overall majority in the General Election. It appears that because of his timing he got quite good odds.
With loyal Ministers showing such a level of belief in Brown it is no wonder that this Government is accellerating towards oblivion. Pity that given the fraud of a budget they are out to ruin the Country at the same time.

I suppose the fact that this spin nonsense has been recycled by BarryW is a positive thing. Probably comes from his time as Chair of the rubbish and bins committee on DDC.

I've said many times Barry, that so long as it's Labour screwing up the Country and screwing us at the same time, it's O.K.
No one will complain, no matter how awful it gets; everything will be excused.

Roger - it seems the Minister concerned is Lord West who obtained 66:1 odds. Political Betting recon it was a spread bet. I am not an expert on betting, I dont do it myself, but I understand that he was betting on the number of seats labour would lose at the election.
Lord West of course was brought into Government as one of Brown's gimmicks when he assumed the Premiership. He is not a dyed in wool 'Labour man' as such but, nevertheless he is a Government Minister.

It's a good job that after the Damien McBride affair politics have taken a more highbrow stance in this country.

You really dont see the difference between what is reported in this thread and the deliberate fabrication of false rumours about the sex lives of senior opposition politicians, and their wives then Sid.
If so then your 'moral compass' is as warped and degraded as Mcbride's then, Sid, if you happen to have such a thing.

This is interesting on PoliticsHome.com.
Its seems that fewer and fewer political insiders are placing any importance on Labour annoucements. They are much more interested in Conservative ones.
Take a look at the numbers here:
http://www.politicshome.com/#7398
It is just another example of how this lame duck of a Government is being regarded as ever more irrelivant and being written off.

Really Barry is there aything interesting in politics at the moment, other than how a lot of them manipulate expenses and god knows what to suit there own greedy needs. Cameron and the deputy Chancellor, talk about tweedle dee and tweedle dum,in speeches yesterday said nothing we don,t know already and yet finish up with a rapturous applause from the Tory sheep.
Brown blundering and blustering along doing his best trying to hold the Country as well as his own party together.
Whether you accept it or not we have never in many a year had such an inept corrupt lot governing or waiting to govern us.

getting back to roger' comments about "labour" screwing up the country and us.
why did the tories cheer and clap so much when the state of the economy came out at the budget speech?
so much for the party of patriotism, much more interested in points scoring.

Howard I think you will find they were jeering Darlings absurd so called budget with the fantasy figures he produced for expected growth. The budget was purely a political budget not one designed for the benefit of the UK.
Dave1- Politics is fascinating at the moment because we are seeing the well deserved disintegration of this wretched Government. All the more so thanks to the internet and the mass of information that was never previously available.
You can say whatever you like about those speeches, they went down well with the political commentsariate, just look back at politicshome.com to see that.
With another poll out today showing a 19% Conservative lead, compared to 18% in the two immediatly previous polls (the only 3 mainstream polls so far since the budget) I think DC is doing pretty well at the moment.
Brian - did you not read up exactly what the PH100 is. Its not a biased political group, its a balanced group of political insiders including MPs, journalists and others from accross the Party spectrum and none. Three quotes that you may have missed because they were given at the bottom of the page:
----
A non-aligned media panellist said: 'One struggles to take Labour announcements seriously - just one pointless initiative after another.'
A Lib Dem parliamentarian reckoned: 'Labour seem to have run completely into the sand.'
Even a Labour MP confessed: 'I pay a bit more attention to Tory announcements than I used to.'

Just noticed that ex labour Minster, Stephen Byers has stuck the knife into Brown and the budget.

This is fun. I do wonder if Brown will survive to lead Labour into the General Election. Just a shade over 13 months left to go at the most. Hopefully they will implode totally before then.

You do love to misrepresent what I say. The situation faced by many people is indeed serious and no laughing matter but seeing the incompetent fools who led us to this situation destroy themselves is fun and well deserved. May they never get back into Government to wreak such havoc on our economy ever again. Every single Labour Government has ended in economic tears.
