it was the first photo in that folder so i could not work out how it could have been anywhere other than near the entrance.

Yes it does Howard, it's the North door, right opposite the St Mary's Centre, near the far left corner of Stembrook car park ( as viewed from the co-op.)

That beautiful flint-knapping could not possibly belong to Charlton Church. PS Thanks to Phil Harding of Time Team who has inspired an interest in me for the quality of flint-knapping and I have to say we have some wonderful examples round here.
