A walk to and from St Margarets Bay today ended on this warm sunny day with this Summer carpet of flower`s on Langdon Cliffs. A variety of butterflies spotted en route, but non would stay still long enough to be imaged. How many Dovorian`s have ever ventured these outskirt`s I wonder?

Lovely up there Paul, a perfect place to go and unwind. I actually saw this white from the Prince of Wales Pier the other day, but thought the farmer had sprayed the field with something. I haven`t seen these flower`s up there before. With that strong, warm summer wind up there, I really didn`t want to come back down.

Last one, and taken from the same location, why not take some binocular`s up there, and just sit and watch the ship`s go by?

My neighhbour told me about the white fields near St Margaret's, it is white FLAX (Linseed, for the oil or seed), I don't think the plant is used much (at least not in Britain) for linen manufacture now, but I may be wrong. Usually the flax flowers are blue but this is another variety, maybe the seed is better from the white one. On Monday we saw two flax fields, one white, one blue, near Chartham.

Thank you for that Kath. I did spot a field full of the blue variety on the Dover Deal road past the St Margarets Bay turn off last week. I didn`t realise there was a white variety too.

Wonderful pictures.
Has anyone seen a field of Borage recently? There was one at Waldershare a few years ago, a light lavender colour overall, was told it was for animal medicines.
Borage flowers are floated on Pimms, very pretty.
We visited the lavender farm at Shoreham 10 days ago, best to go in next 2 weeks, well worth a visit. Wonderful shop, herbs, meats, etc. And lavender Ice-Cream !!
Here is a field just coming out:

THere used to be "herbs and medicines" shop near to Canterbury Cathedral but I can't remember their name. I do recall it was the name of the farm providing all the ingredients, one of which was borage. At that time most 'medicine' manufacturers were importing their borage from France, but this farm had loads to sell.
I set-up a deal between them and a firm near Gillette Corner who were desperate for supplies.
I often wonder if I'd have made my first million trading in borage and other stuff like that. Maybe Howard, that would be a good business to start up in a recession, it only requires some product knowledge, a telephone, and some networking skills.; ergo low cost start-up.
Hmm, might see if it's worth having another bash.
