Picked up a story on here about Peter Sutcliffe, the Yorkshire ripper appealing to be released. Lawyers in London have presented a case whereby, due to his mental state, `expert` evidence now shows that he should not have been convicted for murder in the first place. If properly treated, he would be able to be released under licence, as he`d be a low risk to the public. His mission to murder all those prostitute`s due to voices from God, also involved the murder of Babara Leach, a 20 year old pychology student in error. Her mother is fighting against it. I suspect like Myra Hindley, it will never happen, but I say it with tongue in cheek. Shall we show him compassion, and give him the benefit of the doubt?

I won`t go through all the capital punishment bit here, though you`re of course free to do so, but can someone help me understand this. How can grown intelligent people with brains and qualification`s of members of the law even consider trying to get a bastard like this released. Are they out to make a name for themselves? Are they short of work? They`d have to be the best at the law to win this case. So why don`t they try defending other more deserving soles who desperatley need their help? Remember Perry Mason? Won all his cases, but I wonder what the viewer reaction would be if he defended and won a case to release a serial killer? Red hot phones I suspect. I just can`t get my head round it.

Colin, I came back on here to post about the same topic. This man was given 13 life sentences - thirteen - and expects to be freed? Not in my name. Those poor women, already abused and vulnerable, seen off by this man - don't dignify him with the title "animal", as animals kill for food and defence - in horrific ways that they never deserved, whatever their and our morality. keep him caged.

sounds like a fit up to me.
every home secretary has used this ploy to gain popularity.
we had it with myra hindley everytime a government was under pressure.
the trick is to let the serial killer make a plea for freedom, the public scream like an idiotic mob, then the home secretary makes a solemn statement that so and so will never be released.
great for popularity.

Apart from evolution Bern, I never refer to any humans as animals. As you say, animals kill to survive, and the prey at least has a chance to escape in most cases. We did the same once of course ourselves, but we go to the shop now instead of killing next door`s pet rabbit.

Or grow our own, in my case!! Not rabbits, veg! I am veggie............

However, there are grades and degrees of life-taking. the woman or man who snaps after a lifetime fo abuse is not the same as the an now atempting to spend our money on a travesty of a hearing to agree to a finite term. He was given 20, not 13 life sentences. There is a clue there

This appeal is exactly what happens when you treat such monsters with the kind of stupid leniency we do.

seriously, you know very well that people like that are a home secretary's dream, as soon as they need a popularity boost, just sit po faced in front of the tv cameras and make a bland statement.
the best exponents of this have been jack straw and michael howard.

Whilst we're at it, perhaps we should also think about poor Charles Manson and how he must have suffered over the years, and whilst we're at it rebrand Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein and Genghis Khan as misunderstood products of broken homes. Poor little mites.

I think someone should slip into his cell and give him a lethal injection, thereby removing the problem for everyone, permanently.
When will the country wake up and reintroduce a death penalty, death by lethal injection? Actually, I mean politicians because I reckon the country would vote for a return of capital punishment given the choice.

you know very well that the country will not reintroduce the death penalty.
it is against european law.
our 3 major parties support the european thingy to varying extents.
so either we leave the european union or we drop the subject.

all these empty promises mean nothing, when a date of a referendum is made and the promise that the government will act on the result, will i believe it.
most of your own supporters don't believe it will happen either.
Well Howard, I agree, it ain't gonna happen and that is why I started the posting with someone slipping into his cell and finishing him off for all our sakes. If they could take a few other diabiolicals with him that'd be a welcome bonus.

Most Conservative supporters are as anti-EU as I am Howard.
What I don't understand is what would you want a referendum on? In or Out? That would be an awful risky strategy as I am not sure the country is ready to vote Out just yet. The time will come....
