08:2013377Have to say Ian made me shiver.
What the answer is I do not know. However when you saw the first video attack by three youngsters on those two lads for no reason at all, with one being killed.
Then they said the one that killed the lad got 15years and the two with him got 5 years each, I thought well where has justice gone.
There just appears to be no respect for human life and no justice for taking it.

09:1513386I missed the programme as I was out of town, I'll make a point of checking on the net as the increase in knife crime is very disturbing.
By strange coincidence the short film 'Playground' that Saskia is taking part in, is about a gang of youngsters on the run from the police after a stabbing.

08:3413441It is very disturbing, but sadly I didn't see the program either.
There is a sense of denial with the Government about this; I understood a short time ago that anyone caught with a knife would be sent to gaol, this obviously is not happening.
With knife crime and even carrying a knife, it must be zero-tolerance and dealt with severely - no excuses.
Why has life become so cheap to (mostly young) people nowadays ?

Look at this chap's record and the fact that he drove from Peterborough to Stratford clearly intent on using the knife he was carrying then take in the sentence meted out.

What hope is there? Both of these are commentating about the same sentence:
Superintendent Roy Smith, of the Metropolitan Police, wrote: “My personal thoughts are that this sentence does not provide any form of deterrence. Nor does it lead frontline officers to feel that they are being fully supported by the rest of the judicial system.”
Detective Constable Aaron Champion, the investigating officer from Croydon CID, said:
“His conviction and sentence send out the message that the police will not tolerate the mind-set Gardner seems to have adopted - that the casual use of a knife is justified to settle even minor differences.”
The crime was the Croydon zombie knife attack
The sentence: He walked free from court!

#10 Reginald, the Superintendent was absolutely right. The DC obviously does not have much idea if he thinks it is ok to walk free from court after that attack. The driver must have been terrified thank goodness his doors were locked or he could have died, he will certainly use his wing mirrors in future.
#11 Captain, obviously the vast majority of those who spoke were on the Opposition Benches going by that picture, so no arguments to excite the media.
I guess the debate being at 2.30 Tory MPs were sleeping off a large or boozy lunch.

Courtesy of the Sunday Times.
The home secretary, Sajid Javid, has secretly reduced funding for a scheme to help children escape knife crime, despite a sharp rise in the number of murders and stabbings. In July, Javid had said that he was doubling the £11m that was allocated to the early intervention youth fund to £22m. This was part of a “public health” approach to combating knife crime and other offences.
While on a recent visit to the West Midlands, however, the policing minister Nick Hurd quietly announced that the funding had been reduced to £17m. Louise Haigh, Labour’s shadow policing minister, described the move as “shameful”. “Dozens of potentially life-saving projects will now never see the light of day. With knife crime at record levels, ministers must think again,” she said.
The Home Office said: “As well as taking immediate action to curb knife crime, we need a longer-term approach to prevent young people from getting drawn into a life of crime in the first place. “We are supporting 29 projects which successfully bid for a total of £17m over 18 months to divert children and young people away from violent crime.”

Another disingenuous Sunday times story, the funding has not been reduced, money is only available to those that bid and they haven't had enough successful bids to total 22m, the rest is going on prevention projects this year.

With a rather clumsy turn of phrase, given the circumstances, an ex-plod calls for the government to 'get a grip' on knives. Normally the appointment of a 'tsar' (aren't we at war with Russia?) signifies government cluelessness, hand-wringing and the discovery of some spare cash to spend on marketing.

The PM says there is no correlation between the rise in knife crime and police numbers, would be interesting to see the study she bases that on.

She is correct. I was at a conference last year where both Cressida Dick and Lynne Owens the new head of the NCA spoke as well as a number of sociologists and people who have been involved in growing knife crime in their 'community' for years.
It is absolutely frightening when you hear from front line officers what is going on, driven by the drugs trade, in out of the way places like Ipswich for example or talk to teachers in inner-city schools.
This all started with gang wars in Manchester in the 90s the model of which has been exported to London with attendant uber-violence.
It is coming to a High Street near you - soon.
We are NOT going to police our way out of this one and anyone who comes out with simplistic calls for 'more policemen on the beat' is a fool.
As for those who talk of treating it as a 'health issue' when they understand f**k all of the disease, but it's become a nice thing to say, although the Glasgow model of crime was completely different, I despair.
