It does not matter what those who did not vote might have voted, we have no way of knowing which way they would have voted, it could equally have been out you can not assume it would have been in.

Applied for my new passport and sent the old one off on 12th September. New (black, QE2) one arrived today; pretty good service, I reckon.

The trouble is I just cant get out of my head the thought of the Passport Office still working from home with a pile of blank documents on the kitchen able and sticking in the photos with a Pritt Stick while using Tippex and a permanent marker to change ''Her Britannic Majesty's Secretary of State requests and requires' to 'His' .

Very good (did you mean Pritti stick?)! Actually, the quality is pretty impressive with a clear photo of Moi on a full-page credit card type thingy, which I hope will aid auto-processing. I had to smile at the Sovereign's wish that I 'pass freely without let or hindrance', given that the USA were keen to take my fingerprints recently (took 2 goes and a shade under 5 mins - same for t'other half) and our neighbours will be doing the same ere long

And I can remember when with three pieces of tissue paper, a photograph, a typewriter and two ringlets I could knock out a very acceptable Italian ID.

Of course, the overall processing time, including queuing, depends on the level of manning as much as it does on the number of people to be processed. The US controls in Vancouver were well staffed, faced as they were by (foot) passengers for 3 cruise ships. I'd guess at around 20 minutes for us to queue and get through.
