Thought we might get away this summer so renewed our passports. Done on line, photos done at Tescos, just add the number from the photo booth on the form, fill it in takes 10 mins. Ten days they arrived this morning! Quick or what? We thought it might be delayed as everyone seems to be wanting to get away soon, but……great service- and of course UK passport now!

Not a problem for tourists, Matey, unless you mind going through the non-EEC lanes. Might be more difficult come September though when the non-Schengen passport checks come in. Who cares? We've got our passports back.

Your wisdom will never cease to inspire me, Jan. Any contribution to the facts for a change?

No, but it seems your sense of humour has gone walkabout.

Worth noting that the non-Schengen shenanigans would've applied irrespective of Brexit, I assume.

No, Jan. I loved Monty Pythons. Just thought it was funnier the first time round and in context.

No. The biometric entry requirements are for all 3rd country citizens regardless of membership of the Schengen agreement. It's a security measure dependent upon sharing data between the various EU databases which we no longer benefit from.

Ah, I see. So it wouldn't apply to Eire citizens travelling direct to, say, France?

I don't believe so.

I'm thinking about getting an Icelandic passport. I should be eligible in 4 years if I keep my residency. I think I could keep my UK passport too, but I don't know if there is any benefit in that

My passport needs renewing.
Can anyone elaborate on the bit in bold above? Does this mean I don't need to mess about taking an ephoto, getting it onto the computer and then uploading that onto the form? I was going to do it the old fashioned way as it seemed less hassle.

Yes, very simple. Go to the photo booth at Tesco and select passport photos. Then it takes the pictures and if you’re happy with them, it will print a set of four. Also on those photos it provides you with an ID number. When you’re at home on your PC filling out the form, it will ask you for that ID number. Then it goes on line, finds your mugshot and uploads it automatically to your application.. it’s so simple!
Then it asks you to send in your old passport. That’s it.
Good luck

Thank you kind Sir.
I've just got to get my lazy arse up to Tesco now.
Don't really need the print outs then I guess?
The last time I renewed my passport I used the ten year old left over photos from the last time I did it. And I think they were about nine years old the first time I submitted them. So my current passport photo is of me about twenty nine years ago. Still, I've always cleared ID checks and that is all that matters.
Tempted to submit the same image again. Such is vanity.
