Mine is different to the link, it just says that I am due a refund and open an attachment for more details. It looks more professional than usual but surely refunds would only be handed out to someone who had applied for one in the first place?

Do you know, I really wonder if people actually fall for these scams, they really are so obvious!

This could be genuine Reginald; if you have a car that is zero rated tax it still needs to be renewed every year.

DVLA reminders always come in the post as far as I'm aware. Besides, any email that salutes you with your email address is a sure scam. As for gullibility, it's a profitable business:

I stand corrected WGS.
(Although I did say ‘could be genuine’).
It's good practice also not to follow any link in emails and to type in the known genuine address if you respond.

Bob, on initial reading my 1st thought was thats odd I'm sure my tax is not due until January!
An unusually well written scam and the layout exactly mimics the DVLA road tax page. I assume the link will have the victim putting in bank or card details, have forwarded to DVLA.

I know that you can’t read this as I have recently had a call from my Indian/Indonesian broadband provider telling me that my IP address has been compromised and that my internet would be cut off after 24 hours.
To prevent this I was advised to call back with my details to reinstate it......
Silly me I was late in providing my payment details; hence this non posting.
Another ‘service call’ I had later in the day, from a different number (not withheld), I was asked to press 1 if I was a BT customer and to press 2 for other providers. Rather than make a snap decision I just replaced the receiver.

This one has been around for some time in large towns and the usual targets are flats where mail is left in one place for all the residents.
It seems to have moved on in this instance to individual houses:

I never reply to any emails unless I am absolutely sure of the origin as a result I will not click on the one I received from "UK Power Networks <priority@news.ukpowernetworks.co.uk>" and I do not remember registering with them. The email starts as follows......
Hi, we are UK Power Networks and it's our job to maintain a safe and reliable supply of electricity in London, the South East and East of England.
Rest assured, power cuts don’t happen very often but if the electricity network is damaged or develops a fault we'll get your power back on. Our engineers work around the clock 24/7 to restore your power as quickly as is safely possible.
You are receiving this email because you are on our Priority Services Register. Not sure why you are on our Priority Services Register? Find out.
Preparations to consider before and during a power cut
1: Make sure we have your latest contact details
It's really important that we can contact you in the event of a power cut so we can continue to provide you with extra support. Have you recently moved house or changed your telephone number? The quickest way to update your details or remove yourself is on our website. You can also call us on 0800 169 9970 (free to call from a mobile or landline) at any time........

#14. Jan, I suspect yours is battery driven so a power cut wouldn’t cause you any inconvenience...but it must be more comforting to know that they are concerned about your gadgets.

I’ve just had a call from 08003281700 which is a genuine Sainsbury’s number .
It was recorded in a foreign accent and said that they had an important message which I could hear if I pressed any number on the keypad.
I promptly replaced the receiver as it sounded like a scam call........certainly not Sainsbury’s usual contact method!
Looked it up online and found that it has aroused the suspicions of many people.

Here’s the latest one that arrived today!
They’ve provided a pdf attachment which I suspect is packed with malware or to help me provide my bank details so they can dip in!
