Part of the problem is that poor use of English is so widespread in this country now, even on 'official' communications, that we can no longer take bad spelling and grammar as a clue to the presence of a scam.

I never answer a phone call from a withheld number, never answer a call from a number I don't recognise, delete any email I'm not expecting without opening.
Probably why I have no friends
If you are never too sure, stick the number or email into Google and 99% of the time, someone will tell you exactly what sort of scam it is

Best block the domain, or they'll keep sending; unless it's a regular one (e.g. hotmail), in which case block the whole address. Alternatively, block everything and set up a list of safe addresses.

I hate these! It's when they make them look all professional to try and trick you - so dishonest!

Cherry ripe is made by Cadburys Australia and sold mainly there and in New Zealand.

I was approached in Morrisons car park the other day with an absolute classic.
Bloke claims to be a salesman and has accidentally been given surplus stock.
It's usually watches, but could work with anything I guess. Bloke shows you an advert in a respectable magazine saying said watches retail for £200, but he, "...can let you have one for £50".
So how are they scamming you?
They took out the advert in the magazine and they bought a ton of these watches for about a tenner each. This is the only way they sell them. By running this scam.
I walked away as soon as he got to, "... I have some surplus stock", after he had previously claimed to have stopped me to ask for directions.
The previous time this was tried on me, I asked for them to accompany me to a jewellers to get the watch valued and they suddenly decided they didn't have the time to deal with me.
I first learnt about this from That's Life, so that's at least how old this scam is.
R55 DRE was the number plate. Black. BMW I think (it's nearly always a BMW).

The scam with the watches is quite common. When events are allowed they will often tell you they have just returned from a trade event and often have some of the stock hidden under the car bonnet usually behind the battery due to the high value of the goods, which are always crap, seen it so many times, often in motorway service car parks. There was one in Dover a few years back selling high quality italian leather jackets,i asked to test the quality of the leather with my lighter before i purchased, could see it was just pvc,the salesman left rather quickly.

So far this year I've had a covid grant, tax refund and 43 million from a Nigerian fella, enough to buy a Harbour Arm.

I keep getting the Amazon phone one at the moment but they now want a lot more than the old £79 or whatever it was.
