You may all be fed up with by elections but it looks like another one is looming after the resignation of A Shirley. Although we didn't always agree, Alan did chair one committee, and I have to say chaired the committee well and allowed councillors to feel involved in decision making.
Alan from this point of view will be sadly missed and good luck on his new ventures.
St Rads should elect a Labour town Cllr but of course they lost this safest seat to Alan the last time round who was an independent.
Of course having a Labour person elected may no be the best for Dover as, in my short time I'v witnessed Labour cllrs hiding behind standing orders to stop cllrs speaking so do i want yet another labour Cllr doing the same?
It will come down to the electorate of St Rads ward which normally gets very low turn outs.

Politicians know that St Chavigunds residents are fair game and will dump their worst representatives on them knowing that they just accept the piles of rubbish and illegally parked trucks desecrating their surroundings.

There's a low turn out because people realise it doesn't make the blindest bit of difference who gets elected, hardly anybody cares. I know Alan very well, it seems he's come to the conclusion I've spoken about for years - there is no point in town councillors.

Keith there is already a thread on this .I feel sorry for the residents of St Radigunds no one seems to care.I donot understand how their Councillors do not see this. We get. Grants for this and that but nothing is done for this area.We have Charlies Hospital and granted they did get a Community Centre.Lorries still a great problem.
I think Alan is relocating.

As an ex St Radigunds resident I find your comment highly insulting,
I will also add we had some excellent councillors when I lived there and later when my daughter lived in that ward.

Sue,
I didn't have time to look up the thread, anyone Good luck to Alan.
Speaking to Alan since I was elected in October it became clear many of the reasons(not the personal move one) centred around the accountability.
I personally feel decision making should be as local as possible, not having a Town council, just gets decision making further and further away.
The day is fast looming where District councils will have to join together and sat that point the question will be do we need a KCC and this super council.
The works will(or should)cascade down to local areas.
My feelings are that don't do away with a body just because you may like those elected, find others to stand and challenge these geezers.
With regard to St Radigunds itself, you would think that the Labour party locally would have recognised years ago that it's safest seat is slipping away.
Turn out in all elections in this ward is poor.
It's an area crying out for help, Labour should be in there daily campaigning to get people back onside. But like all elections they will likely parachute someone in, and we saw what a disaster that was A Shirley defeated the Labour candidate that time(and the same candidate wasput up again against me, and lost heavily again) which then gives you the concerns, are labour listening.

Here we go again another Dover Town Council election for St Radidund's Ward, what a waste of money and time.
Yet again I am now expected to use my postal vote on one of two people, I assume they are women going by their names, I have never heard of in a couple of days so again will not bother.

And that's the point Jan people stop bothering .
And we end up with the same old .
It was the Conservatives who pushed to call this election costing us ten grand
But I suppose while the two main parties play local politics we pay and actually nothing changes

Yup. But I just read DTC minutes for 15 Feb.
Budget overruns. Paying KCC twice. I would not employ these people to run a sweetie shop in my absence and expect the books to balance on my return.
Just how stupid are they?

Being positive Sue
I work with volunteers in my community to keep a centre. Running and we do our bit , but can often be affected by poor decision making by local councils , Governments .
