And though she was standing
for St Rads, was she actually standing
in St Rads?

Mmm, I think a line judge would call a fault.

Look who ever you are .I know the boundary lines like the lines on my hand .I lived in River Court and that’s River.River used to cover the first two houses in Crabble Avenue but they placed that in St Radigunds.Crabble Road is River. The boundary is by the traffic lights .
The Football Ground is located behind River Court.
The Athletic Ground has always been St Radigunds .The boundary of the Ground abuts Crabble Road .So Ask someone who represented the River Ward for twenty seven years .

The winner had 5.63% electoral support, the loser 5.43%.
Surely the result has gone beyond the point at which a representative can claim 'legitimacy'.

IWhat a waste of money .People can vote by post .Waste of .DDC Officers time .Im sure someone will inform but isn’t voting compulsory in some countries.People who don’t use their vote cannot complain .So it will continue .Not a good example to the younger generation,

I think the answer to both Sue and Keith is simply why bother, only those voters who are really interested in politics now vote or when there is a really important issue, like Brexit.
Our politically motivated councillors do exactly what they like and no longer give the impression they care about their constituents needs or desires.

The winner had 5.63% electoral support, the loser 5.43%.!
Almost as bad as 'the winner had 95% of the vote from some repressive regimes'?
Problem is why vote? Candidate A will spaff it all away on grande failing projects, squirty fountains in Market Sq, those sitty downy things in Castle Street, whilst Candidate B will invest in imported (from Croydon) steel bands into Pencester Gardens, at great expense, to remind the local winos that they are racist.
When I was on Deal Town Council we were actually in charge of four things.
Toilets (sub contracted to DDC.
Allotments (so screwed up it had to be taken into private session).
Saturday Market ( impossible to screw up with all the dfl).
Flower baskets/planters.
That's it.
Meanwhile we had a cycle initiative (extra staff and in direct competition to local cycle hire company), usual Fair Trade initiative, carbon free crap etc.
Perhaps councils should just concentrate on providing the best services at the lowest cost and just leave people alone people might vote for them?

If DTC or its reps were genuinely interested, they would get out in St Rads and ask some questions.
In FPTP, there should be a percentage of the electorate threshold below which no rep can be elected (say 50%); the election would be void if this is not reached. Among other things, it would actually make candidates work hard for votes and demonstrate their commitment, rather than assuming easy votes.
As for 'compulsory voting', why should anyone be compelled to vote for someone he or she has no confidence in or whose policies he or she does not support? Coercion ought to be far from the mind of a genuine democrat. Most likely more people would vote if there were a 'None of the below' box as the top option.

Although the Tories know they have no more support that the labour party in this ward
The Tories did get the most votes .
But it has shown again a lot have just switched off from the people who represent them
..sue Jones must be concerned at this result for her own seat
Although she's busy using the town council to gain business ventures
