Good morning
Keeping things local , I wonder as these candidates were not elected by the people of party they are now in , should they have to go for a by-election?
The much publicised Elphicke switch
And just before that Mr Defriend elected on a keep political parties out of local govt , then joined one ,
Neither have been elected to stand for those parties .
It's all quite legal not to go for by election , but is it right ?

More elections that would be a complete waste of our tax money and time.

In principle, I agree entirely, Keith. I vote for a package - MP and Party. Break that link and it's null and void in my view. However, as Jan says, it would simply be waste of time and money in this case given we are so close to a GE!

I think the locals reflect the mood of the whole country- they have become totally disconnected and disillusioned by the state of politics. They want to see action on things that impact on them and improvements to their local area. Most are fed up with the singing from the Party hymn sheet. You can hardly distinguish between the Parties anymore and the daily mud slinging is boring and ineffectual

One bad thing about an MP being permitted to turncoat without a resultant by-election is that her voters are abruptly disenfranchised.
One good thing is that we clearly see that the parties merely provide cover for the career-advancement of unprincipled individuals.

Any MP who chooses to change parties should immediately be barred from the Houses of Parliament as that is not the party the people in their constituency voted for.

Quite so, WGS. And in this case, it has managed to pi$$ off almost everybody! Tory and Labour votes alike are furious. But as long as Natalie gets a tin pot NED role with decent allowances...

Starmer might expel you holding views like that .
At least Gordon and Kevin are loving up to her
It's quite correct locally people go for local
But like defriend did he campaigned and won on a manifesto to keep political parties out of local govt
No sooner than elected he mountains became a political party candidate in local govt from Independent

I did not realise that Gordon Ramsey and Kevin Spacey (1st names I thought of) were into politics.
At the moment I am missing The Chase waiting for the PM to make his big announcement.

Just had notification there is to be an election on 19th September for DTC st Radigund's Ward.
This has been kept vey quiet but I assume that for whatever reason someone has left, yet more money wasted on that tin pot council.

Yep
Another costly by election
Funny , it recall ok whilst the last poster say on it
I do share the view on the most disliked clerk
Will give Labour control of council should they win it
Must be something about that ward must have had the most by elections over the years?
Of course the resigning candidate who was going to change the world, and opposed and campaigned (rightly) not to have political parties in local councils , once elected then became a political party councillor which really didn't help his cause

Considering the complete lack of information about the reason or even the name of the outgoing councillor plus news about prospective candidates I am not at all surprised that apathy has or will raise its ugly head.
I refuse to vote for someone I know absolutely nothing about.

Jan
I have put on here the outgoing councillor who resigned after being a councillor and elected in his stand that political parties should play no role on local councils , but no sooner than he was elected he became a political party councillor !
Changed from Indy to political party .
In the end resigning !!

Thank you Ross for that simple answer to my question,
I wonder why Keith felt unable to do the same.
